  1. Well actually, you could argue that it helps the corral reefs on certain occasions.

If you use an aerosol bottle of suntan lotion you release aerosol into the atmosphere.  Aerosol can be harmful to the environment but its reflective properties repel some of the suns rays and actually help cool the earth, little by little reducing so called global warming (if it exists or not.)

In fact, some scientists attribute some atmospheric heating to the reduction of aerosol being used.  Since there was less aerosol in the air, less sun was reflected away from the earth and instead allowed more of the suns rays to hit the earth.

But I am interested in what normal sunblock is doing to hurt corral reefs.  Could you tell us?

  2. It is possible for the ingredients that are unnatural to that environment to affect the coral reefs. However, I think it is more likely that the global warming trend, outflows from water treatment plants, overfishing, and leakage from large ships are more detrimental to coral reefs than sunblock will ever be. Divers can certainly be disturbing to that ecosystem though. There are just larger scale issues that are endangering our reefs.

  3. Yes!  Why don't you research the topic instead of asking for opinions here on YA?

  4. ive never heard of that

whats affecting them is erosion and disruption

  5. probably,

i once spilt some sunblock on my patio (which is painted) and i went to wipe it up the next day and when i did all the paint had been dissolved and the patio had been decayed.

    and only after one day!
