Individuals "jumping" from one place to another, aiplanes or cars doing the same, spaceships going millions of miles in deep space within only minutes if not seconds, discovering planets and life.

Do you think this will be a reality in future?

  1. The wormhole transportation is a good idea and may be more feasible than a total disintegration.

For short distances, there is also a completely controlled vacuum (like a vacuum cleaner but no tube).

If you want to move an object form A to B, a mini-hurricane wraps the object and by air motion, moves the object to B.

  2. Not likely.  It is possible to convert matter to energy but we are still rather crude in our ability to do this (nuclear weapons do it but they pose a few other difficulties).  Even if you could convert the matter into a form of energy that could be transmitted in a controlled way, I am not aware of any technology which will convert energy back into matter.  Even if someone figures this out, there would be rather significant complexity required to organize the newly formed matter into the exact arrangement of atoms that you started with.  But, we don't know what we don't know so maybe (just don't hold your breath).

  3. No

  4. Being one that likes to watch those kinds of movies, I want to say yes, but unfortunately I believe the answer is no.

A better question would be, what technology would be needed to allow for teleportation to occur?

  5. Yes.

    BUT not teleportation as such.

More a very very advanced 3d photocopier.

The person will be copied, and sent as electronic data to the other location (say opposite side of the world), then you will be reconstructed at the other end.  The original you will be destroyed.

The philosophical questions of whether the cloned you is the REAL you are interesting.

Also due to quantum theory there would be slight errors, so that would be interesting.

Another point is that what happened if there was a malfunction, and the "destroy original" sequence went wrong.  Would the original you, want to survive and get out?  Sounds like a hollywood film idea, any filmmakers out there?

    :)

lol you changed the question by specifying non-cloning.  Well in the new particle accelerator they are building this year, they are hoping to create mini-wormholes.  They reckon that in theory this might allow us to see the first ever time travellers.  As they couldn't travel BEFORE the first wormhole was created.  Some physicists reckon that you could keep the wormhole open using some kind of magnetic field.  But you would not only travel through space, but possibly time as well!!!
