  1. maybe theres more...

its just really hard to find planets lyk the same size as the earth cuz its so small..

most of the planets we see are jupiter sized to saturn sized planets cuz they r big and r easy to find..

however, small planets are hard to find bcuz of its size..

we need to wait for a sign in the star (lyk a shadow) from the planet...

  2. As Slipknot said, I think the odds are likely to be much higher than that. I've noticed that some people have said that we've found "no earth-like planets". It's true to say that we haven't found anything quite as small as Earth, but a lot of so-called "Super Earths" have been found.

Gliese 581 is the best example so far.

And for what it's worth, much of scientific enquiry is driven by speculation. That's how many of the great discoveries were made. It's speculation that drove the hunt for extrasolar planets in the first place.

  3. that'd be a nice round number for a conservative estimate I think. but bear in mind that even if it's that low, there would still be over 100,000 earth-like planets in the galaxy, so it should be possible to find them if we look.

  4. we really don't know.

give us some time, we are learning about planet formation at a tremendous rate.

so far, we haven't seen any planets 'similar to the Earth', so who knows?

we may be an unlikely type, or perhaps just hard to see.

  5. Nobody could say that because there are no further information that the scientist or an observer discover

  6. no..

i think they are FAR more common then that.

we've barely just started finding planets outside our solar system, and we can't even see (most of) them yet.... the only reason we know they're there is by watching the parent star's wobble...

  7. I don't feel it necessary to take a stand on things with no evidence.  We have seen no earth like planets, and we don't know of any reason there SHOULDN'T be more, so the only reasonable answer is we don't know.

You don't need to try to jump the gun and decide there are more or there aren't.  We don't know yet, leave it at that.  Speculating without evidence is ultimately useless.  That's philosophy, not science.
