I haven't ever met a French person so I have no idea but I know that they're very romantic and most are talented poets. Besides, if they're rude, it can't be every single French person, now, can it?

Rude? not at all.they are very warm ,talkative and friendly.like to help but luv to complain( about weather,job,politic,school...)

In general, no not at all. But you will meet the occasional rude person--don't forget that this happens everywhere though!!

Not rude at all.  Remember that standards of polite behaviour are based in the culture.  We learn politeness as we live and grow, and when we travel, we carry our version of polite behaviour with us.  However, when we visit a country with a different culture, we are sure to find that some of the polite behaviours do not match what we expect.  We have to be open to new experiences and non-judgmental.

My theory is that the French people who work in really touristy places in Paris (like around the Eiffel Tower or the Champs d'Elysees) are subjected to endless retarded American tourists, and, therefore, a totally rude. Then these tourists go home and tell everyone how rude the entire population of France is. I once saw this super fat-*** American (I'm allowed to say this, since I'm American) get on a bus and yell at the driver for not being able to speak English! And then you've got all the morons buying berrets outside the Musee d'Orsay!  

Outside of that though, every Frenchie I met in Paris was outstandingly kind. But even the nicest Frenchman can be a bit arrogant. It just goes with the territory when you live in the most cultured and flavorful country in the world. They can't help but say that McDonalds and Budweiser suck. And I don't blame'em.

Not intentionally, it's just their nature for the most part.  Stems from arrogance and is a cultural thing.  Not just two years ago I was ready to write them off as a country, but then I remembered it was where the Maquis De Sade was written.

Compared to those on the east coast though, the french are genuine gentlemen and ladies.

There are good and bad people like others country.

The French are more reserved and somewhat more formal in interpersonal relationships than Americans.

They do not go in for the "Hi I'm Bill and I'll be your waiter" sort of pseudo-familiarity that is common in the USA.  Waiters and shop keepers see themselves as professionals and act accordingly.

They do not practice the slap on the back immediate presumption of intimacy that characterizes first acquaintances among Americans. They require a certain period of getting to know people before treating them like lifelong friends.

They do not discuss the intimate details of their lives with relative strangers and regard those who do as crude and boorish.

They do not constantly smile and regard those who do as verging on mentally retarded.

These are cultural differences but are frequently taken as being signs of rudeness by people who are too culturally insensitive to believe that there is more than one way of doing things.
