Do you think that I should make my teen son cut his hair?

It's getting scraggly and I think that in order for him to get a good job he should cut his hair. He's 15 and is looking for a job this year and has hair to his shoulders. It's really up to him, but I told him it would help if he cut his hair.

  1. I think I would explain to him what the workforce looks for as far as appearance and presentation goes.  I know it's unfair that they judge on the exterior but that's a fact of life.  If he doesn't get a job then suggest trying the hair cut.  Otherwise let him learn from his own mistakes.

  2. I think you should give him the advice to cut his hair if he wants a good job as he might be overlooked for a position if his hair is so scraggly.  It might make him look shady or irresponsible, even though you know he's not.  Then let him make the decision himself.  This is a great opportunity for him to learn the lesson that his appearance DOES matter.  I think that is what you're thinking too that it's up to him and you're just giving him advice - you're not really going to 'make' him.  Read 'Blessing of a Skinned Knee'.  It is a great book about letting your kids 'fall on their faces' now so that when the consequences are higher, they'll have already learned the lesson.

  3. It will help but don't MAKE him cut it. Just make sure he takes care of it and keeps it looking nice. Good luck. =]

  4. yes. that is nasty i would probably mistake him for a girl. shave his head in his sleep.

  5. get him 2 have about a inch of it cut off.... this will have the hair in better condition.... then gt him a decent shampoo and conditioner and make sure he uses it to keep his hair in a good condition!

    good luck

  6. its not like hes going to be trying out for a big office position at 15. long hair will be fine for now...

  7. Don't shave it but explain to him why you want him to cut his hair

  8. my brothers hair is that long and he got a job. just ask him to get it trimmed.

  9. I don't think you should MAKE him cut his hair but what you should do is make him aware of your opinion and leave it at that if after a while he still hasn't gotten a job suggest it again...

  10. I think you should ask him to at least trim it or style it so it doesn't look so scraggly. But not an incredibly drastic cut unless he wants it.

  11. Tell him he should, but don't try to make him do it...it will just make him more intent on keeping it that way...
