Question:

Do you think that Meyer is being irresponsible? ?

This is a honest question, and it's not meant to be offensive to Twilighters or anyone else.

Basically, I feel Meyer is taking things overboard. I understand she's annoyed (I would be) that her book has been leaked by people she thought she trusted. But personally I feel she's being a bit immature. I thought she would have a sulk time, and then return. Writing is her responsibility. I mean, honestly, many authors have struggled with worse. But they came through and delivered classics. Right now it's like Meyer is throwing a hissie fit. Not offense. If you're going to disagree give some pointers, don't just rant at me. And who knows, I'll even give you best answer. :D

  1. Why punish everyone because of what one person did wrong?

  2. Wait what happened? I am not one of those overboard twilight fans, but I do really enjoy reading the books. Can  you provide some links about this because I havent heardd it yet.

  3. It sure sounds like it. I can't imagine anyone from Shakespeare to C.S.Lewis doing that. What would happen if Shakespeare threw down his pen one day and said, 'F*ck it!! I don't get any royalties(aka paid for his works by how many are sold), and they pay me peanuts for my plays. My Dad and my kid are both dead, and so is the Queen Elizabeth, whom I loved as the best queen England had(she was). I quit.'

If he did we would have his comedies, but not his tragedies which was what many people consider the best of his works. Great writers pick themselves up after a defeat and after sulking for awhile, start again. Myers has not classed herself as a great writer, so we shouldn't expect too much. I just think she should take defeat a bit better in her personal life. If she quits over something like that, it just proves how immature she actually is. (The allegory above was not comparing Shakespeare's classics with Myer's sh*t.)

  4. Lol first off i very much doubt they've been leaked by Robert.. so i dont know where you got that one from..

But anyway, no i dont think she is being immature.. and for these reasons (dont worry im not gonna rant or be mean :P)

Well i dont know if you yourself are intrested in writting or are a writter, because if you arnt then it is a little harder to imagine but here goes..

Well she has spent ages on this book, and to have it leaked i can imagine what she is going through. Every time she sits down at her pc to coninue writting, she is gonna feel down as she said, because she'll know everyone knows the main bit.

Its not 'hers' anymore, it has waay ahead of schedule been shared with god knows how many people.

I dont think she is throwing a hissie fit. To be honest i dont blame her one bit, and i would absoloutly love it if she didnt right midnight sun at all.. Heres why - No i am NOT  a twilight hater, infact i adore the books and am usually always arguing against haters! The reason i dont want her too write it, is because it will show all of those people  who claim to be her fans, yet go on posting her material, it will show them she has a backbone and aint gonna stand around and watch it happening!

I dont know if you was around when breaking dawn was being released, but on here the site was filled with people posting questions ASKING for the first 7 chapters of breaking dawn (this was  aday or two before it was even released in the shops by the way) And even some posting questions, which wernt questions, just links as too where to find the book online.

As ive said before, meyer has brought all her fans alot of joy from these books, and i'd say half of them has thrown it right back in her face when it come to leaking breaking dawn (and now also midnight sun)

So i can understand how you and most probably many others thinking she's going waay overboard by halting the book, but i think she needs time to get over it.

This means ALOT to her. The only way i can try to explain, is imagine you have a really big essay at school.. everyone is gonna see it and you have put so so so so so much hard work into it.. and you cant wait to show it off.. then suddenly somehow it gets shown way early before its meant to - you havent finished revising and editing it, so it does have some flaws.. Well would you really have the heart to go right back to that project and finish it off? I know i wouldnt, knowing everyone has seen the first and most part of it.

I think and you may think im going overboard here.. but i think she should take a couple of years away from the book. Come back in 2-3 years time when she can look at it with a fresh mind, who knows maybe she'll have new ideas and think hmm i can tweak this etc.

She is planning on writting at least 2 sequels to the host, so she could be working on that!

Thats what i think anyway. :]

  5. I think with Meyer, it's all about the drama.

Because of getting reported for every single answer I posted here, I have been in another more liberal forum lately, working on the Don't Burn It Return It project as well as the petition which was sent to her via her brother Seth and answered by him within 2 hours. We have gotten a lot of press - including the cover of Entertainment Weekly for our efforts concerning Breaking Down - that piece of trash. A lot of her former fans come over to our side every day -- especially after last night.

I have examined the copy that is circulating. In fact, our group has had it for a while. When we got it, we immediately wrote to Seth and asked for confirmation but he did not reply - leading us to believe it was fake or she did not care.

One thing is clear. This was not something sent to an editor or publisher or even agent. The format is completely wrong, starting with the fact that it was bound. You can see evidence of spiral binding in the scans.

Who would she send a spiral bound copy to? Someone she wanted to read, but not lose pages or get them mixed up. Which leads back to the folks at Summit. I am sure that someone like RPATTZ has a trailer on the set and that people are in and out all the time. I think it was his copy but I don't necessarily think he did it. Although he has said he hates the character of Edward which is why she sent him the chapters to begin with -- to learn Edward's thoughts and feelings better. Anyone could have come in and picked it up in his trailer. I doubt he kept the copy under lock and key.

Quite honestly, MS has always been a laugher to me. Why was it necessary to write a second book to describe the feelings of two characters? If that was the case, virtually EVERY novel should come out in multiple POV's. Most authors are very comfortable expressing the POV of more than one character within a single book. Can you imagine Harper Lee having to write a separate To Kill a Mockingbird in Scout's POV? Or Daphne du Maurier having to write a second Rebecca from Maxim's POV? The whole thing was ludicrous from the very beginning.

She is already getting people to buy two versions by putting out the deluxe edition with the first chapter to the next book several months after the first edition. Many authors include the first chapter of their next book free as a matter of routine. They don't sell two separate versions. Now, she is selling the Deluxe Boxed Set - with some kind of a special jacket and a ribbon bookmark. Big freaking deal. And then she expects you to buy MS so now you have basically 4 copies of Twilight in your collection if you are the true fangirl fan. You've now taken a 20 dollar book up to close to 100 bucks. Oh yes, and don't forget her lexicon. You must have that to understand all the bi-illogical stuff she is trying to explain about Breaking Dawn which makes no sense anyway.

I was asked last night in our other forum what I would do as an author if the first 12 chapters were leaked. My answer was simple. After the epic fail that BD was, and seeing how people obviously seemed to like the first 12 of MS, I would dance naked in the woods in gratitude that people still wanted to read my books and finish it.

However, I think she didn't say everything in her letter. First of all, it irked me that she is punishing her fans for something that one person did--one person she seems to be able to pinpoint. That is an insult to her fans who didn't leak it in the first place. It's cruel on her part to blame the kids who just want to read her work. Yes, it is a world class hissy.

But more importantly, if you read between the lines, it seems she hasn't got a publisher for this book. And if you read the June message from Sethenie her webmaster brother (my special name for him!) you will notice it says she intends to publish it. It doesn't say she is going to. Gut feeling tells me Little Brown doesn't want it now. And why would they? Why would they bother to publish a book that everyone has read the first chapter of and knows the ending of? A rehash of another book. And her idea of writing 5 books in one year is just not going to happen. The time traveling mermaid idea was just silly. Who would read that?

A glance at her agent's website also indicates no recent sales for SM. Now wouldn't you think her agent would be singing her praises. Especially since Breaking Dawn is dedicated to her.

There is a lot of information at our website - including about a dozen Twilight satires I have written that are becoming quite popular.

Stephenie - cut the drama. Write the book or shut up about it. No other authors on the face of the earth are putting on the drama she is. It just shows she is an insecure, extremely thin skinned, inexperienced hack writer.  Pax-C

  6. d**n, I'm late for school-- I'll come back and write my response later!  Good question by the way.

Oh, and Fingolfin, your answer is hilarious!

EDIT: Okay, I'm back. Before I begin I want to give major kudos to Persephone- great answer!

Yes, I agree SM is taking things overboard. She's being way too dramatic about it. What if she decides to relent and release MS again? That will just make her look like a big baby. She, like Bella has no backbone and needs to accept the fact that mistakes happen--she needs to bring herself up again and deal with it. What Persephone said I COMPLETELY agree with : that it's unfair to her fans that actually WANT to read the book- It's not the fans fault at all that MS got leaked, they shouldn't be punished, SM just doesn't know how to handle things...  I know someone who is OBSESSED with Twilight, and today at lunch she was talking about how pissed she was about MS not being leaked and how she was going to write a letter, yada yada yada. Anyway, there are still alot of hardcore Twilight fans (even after the awful BD), and they're ticked about this. I think that SM is going to lose even MORE fans because of her calling off MS-- not to mention the tons of mail she's going to get from her fans telling her that they want the book to be published. Now she's made both sides of the party mad-- her fans and her "non-fans" like us who think shes being immature.

  7. i do not think SM is being inresponisble i mean she is really upset over what happend. Imangine you writing 4 books then another one and half of it leaking out for everyone in the world to see. I dont think you would like that much and like she said if she countinied writing right now the cullens would probably all die so i think shes just really upset hopefully she will countine the book later on but we can only hope for now

  8. I can sympathize with what happened, and honestly, I suppose she should keep writing it, especially if her publishers didn't tell her that she had to quit writing it because of legal issues.

The publishing company already owns the rights to Meyer, so she can easily file a lawsuit if need be.

I think it's really sad, though. You trust people with something you had passion for only to know that they betrayed you. I'd be angry if one of my friends leaked my novel on the internet without my permission.

You just have to know who to trust. But yes, I feel Meyer should take cool down time and continue writing it. There's really no reason not too unless too many overwhelming legal issues arise.

  9. I both agree and disagree with you there.

I agree that it does seem like she's chucking a hissy fit. I mean, so it got leaked onto the internet? that does not change my enjoyment of the book one bit. I read Midnight Sun nearly a week ago and I went into it with great trepidation after the disaster that was Breaking Dawn. However I was very very pleasantly surprised. Edward's character offers much more insight and allowed SMeyer to take her writing to a deeper level. I absolutely loved it and would definitely buy it. On the other hand, if it had came out and I had not read the first 12 chapters I probably wouldn't have bought it, instead I would of borrowed it from a friend or from the library if I had read it at all. As far as I can tell (although I'll admit I haven't extensively looked into it), that most fans have greatly enjoyed it. So yes I agree that she is seemingly acting immature.

However I disagree with you on one point. In you saying 'writing is her responsibility'. She does not have to do a thing. She does not owe us anything. Just saying

I also just want to add that, although she doesn't owe us anything, she shouldn't punish us fans for something that's not our fault. If I was a better person I would of kept away from the leaked draft. But I'm not and I peaked (ok spent several hours reading it).

I'll compare it to Jo Rowling threatening not to write her encyclopedia if the Steve Van Der Arks book is published. In this case I believe Rowling is absolutely in the right even if I don't like it. In this her so-called fans (Lexicon & co) have completely exploited her and would be publishing something basically the same as what Rowling wants to publish. Smeyer doesn't have a justified reason for not publishing it now. So she's upset it's been leaked, but in the long run does it really matter?

and why do you think it's by Robert Pattinson? I haven't heard about that yet...

  10. She's putting it on hold indefinitely, meaning she probably will continue it eventually. So technically, she *is* doing the sulk-time thing.
