Do you think that Stalin would be proud of the new FISA bill?

How about the Patriot Act, Military Commissions Act, or the Real ID Act?

Aren't these pieces of legislation the communist utopia of government oversight that Stalin strived to achieve, but wasn't ever able to because of a lack of technology?

  1. Stalin wouldn't have bothered with bills.

    He ruled by fiats.

Stalin would have just said the word and his opponents would just disappear one night. There certainly wouldn't be any press coverage or public debate on the matter.

Stalin would have laughed at the Patriot Act and called it half-a**ed.

  2. Sure he would have. He was a very paranoid dictator, much like his counterpart Hitler. It would probably have given him great satisfaction that a country that purports to be the land of the free was spying on their own citizens just like his despotic regime would.

  3. haha great question!
