Question:

Do you think that Top Contributors have too much power here on Y!A?

Not only do they have the power to get answers deleted, they can get accounts deleted as well. Isn't it dangerous for Yahoo to give ordinary users so much power in their company? We've all seen the mischief they cause, particularly in the G&WS section.

  1. Actually TC's are often targeted heavier by reportniks than anyone else. I have a huge amount of respect for a TC that has managed to keep their account open for over a year. I don't answer enough questions to get one and in a way I'm glad.  I don't want to build up a massive amount of points, best answers, and a 360 blog only to get it all shot down.

  2. I don't think that being a TC gives me any more power over anything. I have reported outrageous and obvious violations and have had nothing happen. Meanwhile I have had questions deleted that clearly had no inappropriate content.

The power of reporting is equally distributed amongst all users in theory, though they make curious mention of "influence" when you do report something.

It would appear that they have a hidden background method of assigning power to users, and users who report non-violations lose power to report while people who report true violations gain power. The exact method of determining who is right and who is wrong seems to be done by machine, no human could have believed my one deleted question was "solicitation". And a small child could have seen an answer I reported was a word for word copy of someone else's answer. (I intentionally sometimes leave typos inn answers to see when they are copied) The main culprit is users with multiple accounts, it gives them an unfair advantage over regular people who try hard to provide quality data.

The axe of the YA reporting system is dull indeed, but it is better than leaving the site totally unregulated and full of spammers and trolls. Yes, it CAN get worse than this believe me, I have been on the internet since 1993, I have seen it all.

  3. Considering that my account was deleted once (I won the appeal) and that none of my reports ever result in a deletion in the Math section. I don't report in GWS. I don't think I have much power as a TC. The badge is a target sign for reporter trolls if anything.

I find that the nasties and mischievous ones normally don't have an orange badge.

  4. I have power at Y!A?  I got answers and accounts deleted? That's news to me.  All having a TC badge proves is that I've been good at answering a few homework questions.

Some feminists may not like my answers at GWS, but when it comes to "mischief", I'm probably not even in the Top 25 on their hate list.

  5. I actually started thinking that instead of having too much power, they have too many accounts. On one of my questions, some chick wrote the most ridiculous answer. She had ten thumbs downs FFS.

Anyway, I forgot about the question when I went camping. I came home and sure enough it had been to voting and it had 8 votes. That's EIGHT VOTES. Therefore, I think she has 8 accounts.

Really, is being a top contributor that important to you that you need to have 8 accounts? Wouldn't you be more ashamed for having no life? Plus, there's a dude on here with like 4 accounts and he thinks he's sooo smart and I bet he's really smug when he answers in his different "aliases"...Here's the truth - he lives a sad sad life and so do the Top Contributors who cheat on Yahoo...and I'm starting to think there's a lot of them.

Edit: Do note that I commented on theTC's who cheat ONLY...I'm very positive that there are some excellent TC answerers out there who don't cheat and don't report and deserve the badge

  6. It pretty much is a reflection of the current administration....

  7. Power corrupts, and feminists were pretty corrupt to start with e.g. lies like these:

    http://www.snopes.com/crime/statistics/s...

    http://www.acbr.com/biglie.htm

  8. Top Contributors are on top only as long as they continue to answer enough questions in a given forum.  Take a vacation - come back - and you've lost your 'title' - and btw, there are no special permissions or powers that come with it - the honor is as fleeting as an original thought.

everyone above level 1 has the ability to report and it typically takes two reports from two individuals prior to a deletion.  You speak as though the title comes with a magic wand however, understand you're not in disneyland anymore Toto ~

  9. Top Contributors have no more reporting power than anyone else. We still get our stuff deleted for no apparent reason, and if anything, we do the least reporting around here.

  10. Probably, but if someone has spent that much time on Y!A they can't have any kind of life. Let the babies have their bottles.

    Don't worry, be happy.

  11. Yep, that's why I have most of the blocked.

While I still get questions deleted from time to time, not nearly as much as I used to. Feminists here delete legitimate questions while leaving silly misandrist questions alone.
