Do you think that a dolphin room for a teenage girl is too juvenile?

My daughter wants to go from a princess room to a dolphin room. She is 8 and wants a room that she can keep for a long time. She's tired of her princess room and thinks it's to childish.

  1. Not if it is a Miami Dolphin room.

  2. www.RockYourWall.com has a lot of cool room accessories like PBTeen for way less money. Colored magnetic dry erase tiles, cork tiles and so much more.

Try grey dry erase tiles and blue dry erase tiles for a very cool and functional style tile bulletin board that will coordinate with your dolphin theme!

  3. Ya' know, if you do it right, with a grey background and art-deco colors and soft curvy lines, using the dolphin only in interchangeable accessory pieces,  she may be able to mature with the room without needing to do a major overhaul.  (Personally, I am craving an art-deco vanity with a round mirror...... I may start surfing second hand furniture shops for one....)

  4. Boy, this is a difficult transition age.  What she likes at age 8 will likely not last into her teenage years.  Only you know your daughter well enough to determine if she will outgrow a dolphin theme, but my suspicions say, yes, she will.  So, with that in mind, work with her to pick out a paint & carpet theme, and then put the dolphins only in with inexpensive accessories, such as Wallies, posters, pillows, bedding.  Then, in a few years, picking new accessories can rejuvenate the room without a complete redo.

  5. At the age of 8, I would go ahead and indulge this.  Right now, she may "think" she wants this long-term but in a few years, she will probably change her mind (a woman's prerogative, right?  LOL).  Anyway, I would do this, but keep it pretty inexpensive because by the time she is 12 she may want to paint it or do something else.
