Question:

Do you think that all of Kyle Busch's wins this year will lead to a change in Chase format?

Basically, Kyle Busch has so many more wins that he is going to have the Championship wrapped up before the Chase even begins, so do you think that that will have an impact on TV viewership and consequently on any decision by NASCAR higher ups to change the format for the chase back to the former way it was run? Also, do you think that all of Kyle Busch's wins are hurting viewership and consequently sponsorship offers?

  1. not only is it hurting ratings,  toyotas non existent horsepower ( you know the extra power that isn't there )...everyone sees it but Nascar.  So he's won 7 now...I could care less.  It's getting old, they can't fill seats and it doesn't matter where Kyle starts.  He'll win,  then his bandwagon fans can shoot off at the mouth some more.

  2. Not at all. The big reason for the change in ponts was to end Hendrick Mototrsports (especially Jeff Gordon's ) dominance of NASCAR. France Jr just as much said so. Toyota is the new money machine in NASCAR and they (the heads of NASCAR) are loving it and probably helping him cheat or at least turning a blind eye. The only way a change might be in tthe works is if Busch does NOT win this year.

  3. They changed the format back in 2004 because Matt won the championship with one win in 2003.  Now Kyle might win with 7 or more wins?

I think this is what Nascar wanted, the guy with the most wins win the championship, otherwise they would have kept it the same after Matt won the cup with one win.  The new points system gives drivers more motivated to win now.  It makes for better racing.  You seen how motivated kyle was to win last night.  If it would have been the old system, he might have settled for second for points.

  4. no

  5. <<<Also, do you think that all of Kyle Busch's wins are hurting viewership and consequently sponsorship offers?>>>

No more than all of Johnson's wins last year, all of Newman's wins a few years before, all of Gordon's wins a few years before, and Elliott's complete and utter dominance in the late 1980s.

  6. look at last year genius.... it don't matter how many wins you have before the chase... it's all about during the chase.... bowyer had the last chase spot last year and ended up 3rd.... the only reason he didn't finish higher was b/c Gordon and Johnson kick @ss.

He's gotta win chase races to win the championship... and it's all different after during the chase.. Kyles got fewer "friends" on the track then you think... shoot.. his own brother don't like him as a driver.

  7. I really do not see a change except Nascar looking more closely at the Toyota Package as discussed in pre-race; Nascar Fans will watch no matter what make of car or who is leading..Kyle is on a winning streak but when the chase begins..points will be reset..and if he is still in the lead..will have 50 point advantage only..then what matters most is consistently, and winning races....all 12 will have a chance but as you know driver dominance is a good thing, look how Jimmy Johnson and Jeff Gordan in the past years were the dominant cars..did not hurt viewership or sponsorship..the only thing i see hurting the sponsorship is the economy, just my opinion..great question though!!

  8. okay wait it is not wrapped up because he is 70 points ahead now doesn't mean anything anyone can get more wins but i see what you are saying so i think it will make them look at it again because basically we are going to run into the same situation that we did when there was no chase someone is going to win by a landslide.... and yes it is hurting viewer ship because at least 85-90% of nascar fans don't like kyle busch and to see him win or any driver to dominate and win week after week is just boring and if people aren't watching then no one will sponsor... if it wasn't for that i love the brickyard and that it is my hometown track i wouldnt watch the race in 2 weeks because i can gurantee kyle would win or at least be top 5

  9. NASCAR DID, change the chase format. that's what is allowing kyle, to pull away. this season, they award more points for wins and, I don't think even NASCAR, would change the rules, just to keep one particular driver from winning.

  10. The points all pretty much start over, so he doesn't have things"wrapped up".  This is very similar to Johnson/Gordon last year.  I doubt the will change things.  Frankly it would be ridiculous if they did.  You shouldn't change things for what happened with one guy in one year.

  11. Yeah, they should go back to the old format, that way Kyle would win by an even bigger margin instead of giving 2nd-12th an undeserved amount of points. Kyle is just hurting your vision, because you don't like him. GO KYLE

  12. i'm not sure about that, i thought the chase format was put in place to avoid a single driver "running away" with it. it actually brings all the drivers in the top 12 closer together making them all mathematically eligible to win. but i see your point and no, they wont change it coz this kind of year doesnt come along that often.

  13. Well I doubt it-besides the chase hasn't even started yet-so who knows who will win..yeah Kyle is pulling a Jeff Gordon-remember how far ahead Gordon was in the points last year and did he win the Championship-no Jimmie did-

So maybe Kyle is having good luck now-but his luck might change in the chase-just like Stewart having bad luck early season and hopefully not going forward-

The whole reason behind the chase was because of Matt Kenseth's dominance the year he won the championship-so can the format change-yes-can it change because of a driver yes-do I think it will for Kyle this year-probably not-

  14. Will hurt Sponsorship ..absolutely...they will hurt each other fighting for sponsorship rights to him.

No...it isn't going to hurt viewing. People may get sick of watching him win over and over but they will be right back next week pulling for their favorite driver.  Same way with me when Jimmie kept winning all the time.
