  1. Jonah was the first of a kind (monster wingers)...but since then there has been many others.

Jonahs still the original and best though.

  2. It is hard to say but I think in time yes you will get other Jonahs on the rugby scene. as for that other guy saying Dan Carter is already better, Dan Carter is not a winger so you cannot compare the two whatsoever.

  3. You joking mate, surely.

Honestly Doug, Joe, and Siti  have it all over him.

Lomu only really had a couple of good years. And they were on the world stage - world cup years,  he only clocked  up185 points from 63 tests.

Howlett  already has 215 points  from 59 tests

Joe already has190 points from like 45 or so tests.

Siti is on 85 points from 17 and will probably out score them all.

And all three of the current AB wingers actually make tackles, and put the hard yards in to stop the other side scoring. Johna never made a tackle - no one ran through his midfield (Tana).

The thing Lomu is respected and will always be remembered for is his strength of character - to have your career cut short by serious illness is a tragedy - but Johna never gave up, he just kept going and playing the game that he loved - Yes a true super star but take a closer look a the three fellas we have in France at the minute cause they are pretty special too.

  4. No, he came at the right time.  There will be far better defensive players but at 6' 5'' at his lightest 108 kg 1995 at his heaviest 125 kg 1999 they wingers of that size are pretty rare.  Especially one with his attributes of speed, agility and sheer brute strength and even when challenged by forwards he was never intimidated.  Go figure.

  5. There's no doubt someone will come along and be as good, or better than Jonah at his style of play.  I grew up in South Auckland and played at the same club as Jonah, and on the same team as his younger brother, before he moved to Wellington.

He had an AMAZING vertical leap and was quite skinny in High School and played in the second row.  You have to believe that the coach that switched him to wing had a big part in his career.  Maybe we would already have a couple more Jonah's if other players had been played in different positions... of course you need the speed for that!

He was a totally different style to most wings so comparisons are hard.  Offensively, he was unique with his power and speed combination but I think that the speed and elusiveness style of most wings has been used to surpass Jonah at his best.

People as a whole are getting bigger, stronger and faster so it is just a matter of time before someone comes along and does it again.  He'll probably be a Fijian, Tongan or Samoan and he'll choose to play for NZ and all the whiners will be out in force again to complain that we are using a slavery market to get our players.  It's strange how everyone moans about us having Pacific Islanders in the NZ but when it comes to paying for their education, medical and  emergency support they're nowhere to be seen.

  6. defensive techniques have improved and nowadays teams know how to bring down players like lomu.

  7. na man

JONAH LOMU was one of kind

he was like a bulldozer running down the side of the field, man

other players juss got smashed out the way by his size

  8. Jonah was the most destructive running winger in the world when he was playing. You will never see a player like that in any code and had dynamic pace for a 100 plus kg mountain of muscle. As a winger you wnt see a better attacking winger.

There is no player around the world like that currently in that no,11.

You have wingers that out shine Jonah defencively and in other little areas but none are like a stampeding colossus like Jonah , In New Zealand there are 100 jonah"s but not in the same  class,  keep ur eye on NZ rugby in the future your wish mite come true ;Greatest rugby player was Micheal Jones from New Zealand "The Ice Man"

  9. f**k yea! lomu was big and scared the j**s but habana is way more dangerouse

  10. h**l yeah. jonah wasn't that great. dan carter is already better.
