  1. You need to check out markets first.  The breeds you are talking about are not going to make any money.  You'd have to become a certified breeder and have a market supplying large chain stores which means not being a large scale breeder but being absolutely huge.

  2. If you purchase show quality guppies from online breeders its worth a shot.

I bred African Kenyi Cichlids for a year and was alble to sell them all over the US using aquabid.com and ebay.com

People told me that they would not sell because they are so common. They actually sold just fine. I even had some local buyers in my area.

i basically built a website using blogger.com and advertised.

In order for you to make any money though, you will need to breed the show quality because guppies are so easy to find. If you can make your own unique strand from pet store guppies using the genetics guidlines that will work too.

  3. Unfortunately, you are probably not going to go "large scale" in the sense that large companies are able to breed those species of fish.

Unless you have thousands of spawning pairs, it is usually better to try for quality over quantity: after all, people can find undersized, poorly colored specimens for a few dollars at their local petstores--what they can't find is true show-quality specimens.

I have bred bettas for many years in the past, and in all honesty I am usually only barely able to cut even with my expenses. It is expensive to raise high-quality fishes. However I get a lot of enjoyment out of raising my fish, so in the end it is completely worthwhile.
