because i know that a lot of people dont consider it to be one. it really isnt that easy. for all people that think that it isnt a sport i would like to see them do our 2 and a half min routine as good as we can. everyone has to do the things that the are supposed on the rght count and the right way or you will get points off. id like to see them try and do all the stuff that i can do!!! i can do a round off back hands spring layout, and im working on my full (not easy), and i can almost do my standing tuck by myself. i do all stars and ive been doing it for 4 years and im tired of people saying that it is not a sport. i have gotten really strong from lifting people up all the time, its not that easy because if you drop the person a they can get hurt really bad... theres a lot of other stuff but it would get waayy to long

if you dont think that it is a sport please tell me why.

  1. Yes

  2. yes it depends on if your moving around

  3. It is a sport but also a stereotype that can't really be changed.  I think it's mostly because the girls who try out really do tend to be a little preppy.

  4. Competitive cheerleading is a sport, and a very difficult one.  Keep in mind, that not everything that is difficult is a sport.  A sport is a competition in which success depends on the competitor's physical athletic skills.

There are some sports that don't require as much skill as many others.  There are also many activities that require great strength and skill, but are not sports because they are not competitions.  For example, sideline cheerleading, no matter how difficult, is not what I'd consider a sport, but competitive cheerleading most certainly is.

The word "sport" has nothing to do with how difficult the activity is; it has everything to do with whether that activity has a competitive aspect to it.

I do wish Yahoo! Answers would have a Cheerleading category within sports, for a few reasons...one, it's a sport, and two, the "is cheerleading a sport?" question that gets asked about ten times a day wouldn't flood the other boards.

But yes, to answer your question, cheerleading can be a sport, depending on the context in which it is done.

  5. I know that competitive cheerleading takes a lot of athleticism and strength, but the cheerleaders that are just standing on the sidelines yelling stuff and doing a couple lifts isn't what-so-ever.

  6. i think serious high school and college teams that do real cheerleading with tumbling and stunts is a sport but middle school and high schools that just cheer at games and do thigh stands and dont compete..then thats not a sport.

  7. i think its a sport because i agree its not easy but it is phsical activity that people have to train for and people who say its not a sport need to try it for awhile

  8. I consider any kind of competition that requires athletic ability a sport.  I dont consider the "dance squads" that just come out to dance sport, but if you're an actual cheerleader that does flips, pyramids, lifts others up over their heads, you have to have strength and coordination to do that, so it should be considered a sport.

  9. im with you girl!!! im a high school varstity cheerleader and we compete and people think its not a sport cause what they see on the field. but we lift people and tumble and we have to condition and run and stuff just like all other sports. i bet a ton of people wouldnt last 30 mins at our practice. i was lookin at questions on here and in the sport category they dont even have cheerleading listed!!  to all u stupid pple out there, IT IS A SPORT!

  10. i think it can be considered a sport because it is a physical activity you can compete in

  11. definitely. I don't do it but they definitely have practices and have to show up at games too. They are even somewhat like gymnasts.  They compete.

    It definitely is.

  12. Yes but your gloating doesn't help prove you point
