  1. It depends. Some cheerleaders don't do stunts and just shake pom poms and yell go team. If you go to a cheer camp and do competition cheerleading then yes that is hard. How many baseball players could lift and toss a girl in the air and how many of them could do herkies and pikes and stuff. It is a sport and it is a hard one!

  2. yeah

  3. There are two types of cheer: competitive and high school, but both are sports.

I'm a cheerleader, so read this cause you might not know what it's about:

    1. During the summer, we train about 8 hours a week or more, half the time conditioning: running, situps, pushups etc.

    2. We tumble, which isn't doing cartwheels, try more like backhandsprings, back tucks, layouts, and full twists. look it up.

    3. We stretch until we almost pull our muscles every day.

    4. We do jumps, have you ever tried doing 3 toe touches without stopping? It takes some leg strength.

    5. You think lifting weights is hard? Try lifting up people! And try throwing them up and having to catch them at like 50 mph without having them hit you in the face.

    6. It's not a sideline sport, contrary to popular belief, we go to competitions. 5000 people watching you to make sure you don't make a mistake? Think pressure.

If anyone doesn't think that's a definition of a sport, clearly you've never participated in one.

  4. I  think  its  a  sport!Many  people  disagree  but  its  my  life.Its  what  i  do.I  am  in  cheer  camp  now  and  yesterday  we  had  to  do 100  toe  touches  and  run  laps.Its  not  as  easy  as  most  people  think.Most  people  think because  we  shake  pompoms  and  wear  cute  outfits  means w e  dont  have  brains  or  strength  at all.Believe  me  they  did  cheerleading  they  would  agree!

  5. No.

You are cheering on the people playing the sport.

It is athletic, and requires a great deal of you but.........

  6. yes i do believe it is a sport because you can compete in many comps. like for me im on penn elite and its a competive cheerleading team. to prepare we have to run and make sure all of our jumps our perfect before we go out there.

  7. Ew god no. It is retarded. Just my opinion. Thanks.

  8. No, it is a club activity, a school spirit activity, or possibly, a "club sport". But it's not a true sport. Cheerleading was designed to support a sports team, but later it became "competitive", with a judging style similar to gymnastics, but even more subjective. I'm not saying that it's easy, however. Lots of things in life aren't easy. And there is a real risk of injury. But also, although cheerleaders lift people, you won't see them lift anyone as heavy to lift as the weights that football players use. I've yet to see a 400 lb cheerleader. The people that they lift are usually under 140 lbs.

However, I won't be blindly stubborn if definitions change. If the NCAA recognizes cheerleading as a legitimate sport, then that what will be what makes it a sport.

But I got to admit, I love seeing those cheerleaders at sports games.

  9. Yes it is I am an allstar cheerleader I am at cheer camp rightnow and and we had to do 350 standing backtucks and 100 standing bhs backtucks Yes it is a sport well at least allstar is I mean my team we train way harder than pro football players so yes it is sport

  10. NO

It does not involve real athletics.  Any one could go ahead and act preppy. Cheerleading is a side cheer at a football game or something.

  11. yes!i love those pritty cheerleads!

  12. If cheerleading wasnt a sport their wouldnt be tryouts:)

  13. cheerleading is a sport because it take strenth, agillity and concentration, you compete and would be in good shape. heres a quote

    "you lift weights

    we lift people"

    haha i love that

  14. it is a sport . cheerleaders are better all around athletes than the players on the field . also practice longer . are involved in a very high risk injury sport . no teammates to cover errorseat sport . fantastic team work . it is a sport .

  15. yes yes yes yes yes and yes it takes a great deal of athletic work not everyone can go out and cheer in front of a big crowd full of stands cheerleaders work hard they have to memorize cheers dances and routines! cheerleaders have to maintaain a high grade point average and competitive cheerleaders have to preform in front of thousands of ppl with blinding lights in your face and ppl screaming the blaring music and still maintain a smile not any  basketball player or any other sport can get out there and do what a cheerleader does trust me i have done a lot of cheering dont let anyone tel u that it is not a sport
