Question:

Do you think that child labor prepares children for success in school?

Preschool children are not required to go to school. It would be fine if they did work with other children. It would teach socialization skills. It teaches children that they need to work hard to succeed. And that is perfect for preschool children. When they start school, they would be all set for working hard. If they went to school, the teachers don't teach about working hard. They are about coddling children. What are your views on this topic?

  1. I am not sure what you are looking for by asking this question but I do hope that most children enjoy the work they do. Their work is play. This is how they learn. I don't think teachers coddle, they teach through organizing play and allow the children to learn through natural consequences. In reality we are all working all our lives just by living, no matter what our job, career or profession is. That is my view.

  2. yes, kids need to  work hard otherwise when they grow up they will be lazy.

  3. Yeah, get 'em to work real hard so they won't want to do some grunt job when they graduate and they'll be motivated to work hard and get good grades so they don't have to go back to hauling bricks or whatever.

(Please imagine a rather insincere tone here.)

  4. You mean send 4 year olds to factories to assemble things?  Working hard and being miserable might just turn them off work forever.  Best to teach them to love to learn, discover and to apply their best efforts there.

  5. I don't agree with the fact that you stated teachers don't teach about working hard. I believe you are rewarded by working hard in school, especially at the pre-school level.

  6. Children *are* working every day. Preschool children are working at home in the loving support of their families, figuring out how this crazy planet works. Figuring out that families work together to get chores and meals and laundry done. They work with other kids at playdates, learning compassion, turn taking and strength when someone is mean to them. IF they don't learn that early, the rest of school is pointless, they won't learn anything because they are still catching up on social cues.

  7. kids this age learn thru play.  They also learn to get along thru play.

You will burn kids out if they go to work so young.  You know, they haven't been alive that long, and they have been working pretty diligently to learn the language and walk and get potty trained, etc.  They haven't been slacking off, you see.

And around age 3 they can start with little chores like setting the table (inexpertly at first), and gradually build from that to develop a work ethic, but you sound so harsh.

My advice is don't have kids until you change your attitudes.  You will seriously s***w them up.

  8. Yeah kids need to be around other kids
