Do you think that conceptual artists are lazy?

In other words, would you say that conceptual art is an easy option by simply relying on a response from others instead of forming your own response using art?

Your thoughts please?

  1. all art has a strong conceptual element but the trick of Conceptual Art is that you don't have to 'paint your colours to the mast' about your own concepts and can (if you've a mind to) fudge the issue until you get the response that takes your fancy.....not lazy but if you feel harsh you might say cowardly

  2. It's a bit of a con to say "it's what you want it to be."

  3. As pointed out by Don C...this art form is personal to the potential buyer...It takes all kinds of art for all kins of people...What suits me may not "suit" you and vice versa...

  4. Conceptual =modern=not very good....

  5. i have been a conceptual artist for 40+ years and have never created concepts 'on spec' that is... every 'project' has been commissioned {commercial art and other}

    in all the work i have done every concept has been approved for production except for a few and those clients were IDIOTS and had NO TASTE and were PHILISTINES with NO SOFISTICATION or REAL PURPOSE IN LIFE!!!

  6. Surely that is what all artists do , whether their work is conceptual or not?

    I admit some modern art drives me crazy but then again others make you stop and think.

  7. Not so sure. The problem might not be in the artist himself/herself but in the industries labeling of the art. Not knowing how much time and effort is put into the typical concept piece compared to the Traditionalist, Aestheticism...what have you.

  8. They have a good eye and know how to better use negative space, but they couldn't draw Dilbert if they had to
