  1. Well, in my opinion there is no reason to ban horse racing. What happened to Eight Belles and Barbaro was an accident, and they were never treated cruelly. Just because they died doesn't mean they horse racing has to stop. The same thing that happened to Eight Belles could have happened to a horse galloping on a trail ride. If someone dies while they are snowboarding, does that mean snowboarding shouldn't be allowed?

But we all have out opinions and I respect yours. It would be nice if you had a better argument than "I don't think it is right". And its obvious you won't give 10 to any of us with a different opinion than yours.

  2. I may be a little partial because I go to the races all the time but yes it should be allowed. Thats what horses do is run. Ive been to horse centers where in the fields the horsres are out there doing short sprints on their own at full speed, chasing each other around, kinda like two dogs playing together. And even out in the field as such they can and have broken their bones. They are extremely powerful animals yet so fragile. But I also think they should not start racing these animals until they are 3 yr olds..As it is now they start them out at 2 yrs which is too soon, they are still developing. And I think many of the physical problems they get can develope at this age doesn't show up till they get older. It does not give them time to mature.

  3. Yes, it should still be allowed.  Those horses receive better care than many people do, so it was just a freak accident, on both accounts.

  4. No It should not be allowed nor ever been allowed in the past. It is abuse

  5. yes horse racing should be allowed

they just need to change how they breed these horses

they are breeding them for speed and not durability

so the horses are extremely fast but they are frail

for every 1000 races 1.6 result in fatal injuries towards the horses

those numbers show we should make a change but not completely end horse racing

  6. wot hapnd?

  7. Obviously, you have not been involved with this sport long, since you think this sport has to be stopped now because of an accident.

In 1993's Preakness Stakes, Union City was euthanized after beaking down and just a few weeks later in the Belmont Stakes, Prairie Bayou was also euthanized after breaking down.

Even after that I have NEVER heard so much outrage as people attack this sport!  Most of you know next to nothing about horse racing, so you think this is terrible and awful and racing should be banned.  It is awful that Eight Belles was injured and had to be euthanized, but I think this was a freak accident.  She hurt herself After the race...which is very strange.  Even those who have been in the business for years have said how unusual this incident was.

19 other horses ran in that race and they were all fine, but everyone has to concentrate on the one accident which took place.  If all of you hate this sport so much, stop watching.  And if you really want to help these animals, donate to those funds who try to help the injured instead of condemning a sport which you are ignorant about.

  8. no...freak accident is no reason

  9. If the horses lived wild, they would spend a lot of time running on a lot rougher ground and die a lot more horrible death if they broke a leg.

If you want a villian here, its the breeders.  Thoroughbreds are so inbred at this point that there are a number of genetic issues that make these horses more vulnerable than they otherwise might be.  More responsible breeding and even a later starting age for racing would go a long way to making the sport safer for both the horses and the riders.

Race horses lead a pretty pampered life as compared to most other horses.  If you could ask the horse, I'll bet they'd rather be racing than pulling a cart or chasing a steer.

  10. yes it should still be allowed - they need to sit and look at what they are doing is all.

at this point and time they are breeding for the speed and not the stamina, and they are putting these young fillies out there on the track at too young of an age

they need to breed differently to produce a sounder horse, and they need to hold off for a year or so before putting the horse on the track

you saw barbaro's injuries, and you saw eight bells, and there has since been another injury(although I cant recall the horses name) and its because they are breeding for the speed that these young horses are too frail, and alls it takes is one mistep and there goes the horses leg and carreer
