  1. it kill the fish, but what is cleaner is nuclear power energy

  2. no.

hydroelectric energy warms the water as it come out.

more warm water. means less oxygen for fish.

less fish starts a bad reaction to the food chain

    see my point?

  3. It's only reliable depending on water supply.  As far as being cleaner, yes.  It is a lot cleaner than say nuclear power plants which Puts out wast that may or may not ever go away.

  4. yes to a point.

the problem is the number Reservoirs and the size of them.

there very very few lakes big enough to supply full power 24/7/365 days.

in a lot of cases hydro power is used for peaking power because it takes only minutes to shut down and start up a hydro plant

  5. Hydro electricity is a cleaner way of energy generation. No question/doubt in it.  But, considering our everyday increasing demands, we can't just generate energy only through water.  convenient water falls are limited and we can't set up turbines everywhere.  so, other sources emerged.  Better ways are to use solar power (we are not able to use it efficiently even today) and wind energy - of course, we are using both.  I heard somewhere that, using the salinity of sea water, electricity can be generated, but i don't know anything for sure.

coming to your answer, it is a cleaner way of energy generation, not that reliable because, we can't do the same through out the year, when water levels on land fall in summer.

  6. hydroelectric power is a very good source of reliable energy...provided we do not destroy our waterways or place large communities in danger of floods and such and we don't destroy large areas of nature and wildlife....It can all be done, but since it would be us (man) doing it, we will destroy everything and name it progress

  7. No. In the state of California, our new policy (AB32) states that a big hydroelectric is no longer considered a renewable resource. Small dams are still considered renewable, but it is in our last of renewable priority. This is because of:

    (1) Fish, like salmon, can't travel upstream to mate

    (2) Culture, some indian tribes are against moving a whole river!

    (3) Towns, moving a river's path can affect the economy and well-being of the towns that use the river

    (4) Chances of it breaking, causes devastating effects (like China and their floods every 3 years kills millions of people)

    (5) Damage to land

    (6) methane emissions from rotting vegetation that becomes submerged

    (7) Eventual silting
