From an evolutionary perspective, do you think it is dangerous that we have evolved to the state that we are in?

Transit, industry, pollution - everything...are we smarter than nature intended? Will it be our demise? What do you all think?

  1. Yes we are to intelligent. We have the capability to destroy ourselves quickly and efficiently. THAT'S NOT GOOD!!!!

  2. Well judging by the intellect of some people on this planet, its hard for me to even take your question seriously. There are soo many dumbasses who walk this planet that they may even out number the amount of smart people lol

  3. I think that God gives us the smarts to do the stuff we do.

  4. Well, considering all the defects in our work, how smart can we say we actually are?

  5. I just read your question and realized how it can be taken ....it depends a lot on your age and your experiences how you want to answer....since I've lived a very long time...I can see how some people who are very well educated and have reached the highest point in their professional lives have everything money can buy....sometimes are not satisfied. They reached their goal of being successful and also materialistic ...but at the same time they feel empty....and I feel it''s spirituality....that is what they are missing ...so much time was spent on being "book smart" and "Career oriented" that their soul went lacking...and they end up feeling as if there is a " big empty hole" in their soul.

  6. SNAP! Old Dog took my answer.  I'll say it anyway.

No it isn't unnatural that we are as smart as we are.  I think it's unnatural that we are as smart as we are and we only use 10% of our brain capacity.  Personally I think I use about 7% of mines.

  7. Where are all the smart people?   Canada?

  8. A resounding yes.I could not agree with you more.

Our brains are actually asymmetrical now,we use the left [logic/reason/analysis etc] so much. The left side is now physically bigger than the right. That is highly suggestive of imbalance. The increase in autism [extreme left brain thinking] is also higher than ever before.

All this headwork comes at the expense of  empathy, intuition , imagination, art , dreams , images, music, holistic thinking ,emotion etc all which dominate the right hemisphere.I've found the more heavy duty thinking I do,the less I rely on the right side aspects.

Is it no wonder that we have the epidemic levels of mental illness, extreme enviromental crisises, and deep imbalance in our lives.

  9. Obviously we are not THAT smart if we're destroying the environment so hastily.

  10. it's natural alright, but ecologically unstable

  11. Of course it's not unnatural, and nature didn't have anything intended.  We grew smarter and smarter because, in the environment in which we evolved, intelligence was strongly selected for with us.  It's gotten us very, very far.

We don't act any differently than the other animals.  The only real difference is that we're much better at it.  Chimps go to war, but each band can only kill one other chimp at a time.  We figured out gunpowder and nuclear weapons and can kill a lot at once.  We can also envision ways to change our environment to suit us, which most other animals can't.

  12. I've somewhat thought of this many times before.. and i'm  not sure if it makes sense.. or i'm kinda contradicting myself but..

no.. i do not find it unnatural for us to become as intelligent as we are now since we.. ourselves and our brains are part of nature.     but I do find it unnatural for us to have the wide span of technology that we do have.    We are natural beings, our technology is not.    We not suppose to be over weight..  we're not suppose to be as lazy and weak as we are today..  we're not eating the way we should.  We should be eating chips n dip..  chocolate candy bars..  rather..  fresh fruits and veges..     We're not suppose to sit infront of the computer .. or tv..        if you understand any of that.    Tho i do many of those things..    I dont agree and how it relates to our natural beings.          as for technology..    its going to go as far as we are capable of making it go.. which is really a scary thing.. since..   much of our world is already nothing but machines..  and i wouldn't doubt that sometime in the future we are going to have MANY robotic humans.   We are  starting to forget the simple things in life.. what really makes life worth living..   since in a way we are brain washing ourselves.   In many parts of the  US how successful you are relies on how much money you make or how big of a house you have.. rather your kind deed to man kind.    tho i have always been fasinated with technology and curious to how it works

Many people prob wouldn't understand me..   since the world is the way that it is.. and many dont understand how it could be . .. or suppose to be different.. many would think its suppose to be this way since it is this way.. which isn't true..

I guess you have to think on another level.. another plane..

    oh yes..

and i do find it dangerous.. b/c we are distroying our planet..  cutting down too many trees..    putting too much pollution in the air..      not spending enough time with family and children..   working as much as we possibly can.. to make as much money as we possibly can..     to own that house with too many bedrooms ..

    eh

    edit..

d**n i just read Head of Hippie...

and they summed what i was trying to say right up

    Well Said Hippie

    =)

  13. No I don't think it is unnatural for our intelligence to be as far as it is. As a matter of fact we are indeed more intelligent than what we have shown so far. Our brains are used with less than ten percent of it's capacity. What our problem is ... is the d**n near 'total lack of wisdom' we exhibit.

Our end will come not by an overabundance of intelligence, but a lack of wisdom.

Intelligence and wisdom are two different things here. If we could use them both in tandem at the same time then we got it made in the shade! We won't. We are going to die in the heat, unless a divine entity of vast wisdom steps in to stop us just before it all goes to h**l in a boat called "Armageddon".

  14. Humans think that as a race that we are incredibly intelligent & due to the advances in knowledge we have made such as in medicine, science & technology it is an undeniable fact.

But we are a foolish, self-orientated & greedy race at the same time, like you said with industry & pollution, not to mention global warming, where we sit here contributing to the problem & not doing anything to rectify it. Think of the worldwide suffering & pain that people devoid of the basics that almost every person in a western country take for granted go through everyday.

We will most likely be our own end, due to the fact that we have this amazing intelligence that we could do so much with but fail to use it for what really matters.
