  1. It used to be illegal... but these days people get spoiled by all kinds of freedom, so that the overhand pass on serve receive somehow became legal. Like Gordon said some "more experienced" are still calling it but more refs have thrown that pride of underhand perfect passing into the trash.

    So basically if you finish your pass in one attempt, even if the ball hit your palms making double-splash, it is still legal. Should you decide to bump it and swing on it before anyone else touch the ball, it would still be a "double".

Dan_Ye has a great answer.  It used to be illegal automatically.   Now, it is legal under certain circumstances.  If you lift the ball, it is illegal.  If you have multiple contacts and it is only one attempt to play the ball, it is legal.  If you use the over hand pass and go boom, boom with your hands, it is legal.  If you go boom               boom, it is an illegal double hit.
