Question:

Do you think that organizations paying to create public confusion on Climate Change are impacting Y!A?

Exxon has admitted to paying $10,000 per article disputing climate change. Three Washington, DC, "think tanks" have confessed to altering data on aspects of planetary warming presented to congress. A coal mining company has been found guilty of paying an Oregon group to create a "list" of scientists disputing climate change -- all the names were fictitious.

Are these "influencers" now here playing a role on Yahoo! Answers?

  1. I think this whole thing is rigged.   It is pretty easy to be a "top contributor", a few bucks to confuse the issue.  Lots of people just need a little something to support their mindset.  Denial is a human condition, on both sides of the issue.

  2. I wouldn't be terribly surprised either way.  It would cost Exxon relatively little to pay a few people to troll the various forums where global warming is discussed.  Then again, there are already plenty of deluded global warming denier suckers who will do the job for free.

  3. Serious accusations.  Where is your proof.

Edit:  I did some checking, there I found no evidence that the Oregon Petition is a fraud.  Please provide a link. Or are you misleading people?  Can you also name the names of the three Washington think tanks?

  4. No because Yahoo! Answers is the backwater of the online world, and the Environment Section is a very low trafficked area of same.

  5. The list of scientists who receive money for supporting global warming is MUCH larger.

  6. I don't know but I doubt it and it would be hard to prove given the anonymity of YA.  Accusations of conspiracies are a double edged sword and it is perhaps best to take everything at face value and argue from there.  As Bob says YA is a small backwater and the really big arguments and frauds or special pleading will take place and be uncovered elsewhere.

  7. No.  I don't believe in conspiracy theories, and I'd be flabbergasted if this little place was worth their time.

    We're just not that important.

  8. maybe they are offering to pay scientists to tell the truth as the governements are paying them to tell lies.

Why are you AGW believers always defensive?
