Everyone here makes a good point...however...

Taiwan has a very dense demographic populated in Taipei and Gaoxiong.  However, there is relatively little to no incidents of violent crime or the like.

Absolutely. More people meaning less resources and territories. Chinese government 's and the enforced 1-child-per-family law, India's high abortion rate, wars that are going on because of water, oil. and other resources. And when people have no shelter, food, clean water, and/or when they're territories are threatened .. they'd do anything to survive. A natural behavior for every living creatures.
