Do you think that people should be charged for leaving their kids unattending in a car in a mall parking lot?

I was just at the mall and saw a car with no parent. It is nearly 40 C out there today. There was a baby girl in a car seat and a boy about 3 or 4 climbing all over the place. I called the police and took down the plate number. The mom came out and said "Oh was she crying" as if that was the reason I was so upset. I asked her if she ever watches the news. Then she was mad at me for being concerned. I just can't believe anyone would leave their kids unattended in this day and age. She didn't come out of the store while I was there for at least 10 minutes. Who know how long they were there before that.

  1. Well it is against the law, at least in my state for anyone to leave their children unattended in a vehicle if they are under the age of 12 I believe. You did the right thing of course. I think if they are caught doing such a thing at a minimum they should have to give 20-40 hours of community service and attend a child safety class.

  2. Good for you calling the police that was the smart thing to do. If you can't take care of your own d**n kids then you shouldn't have them in the first place.

  3. Yes of course.

Some women tend to treat their kids like dogs when it comes to leaving them in the car.  Sure dogs can be unattended in cars, but kids is a totally different matter.  These kind of women who do this need to have their children taken away and given to good parents who wouldn't consider ever doing that.

  4. You have a right do call the police. You were a concerned citizen, for the welfare of those two children. Feel proud.

Obviously she didn't her about the 2 kids that died in Europe in two separate incidents when the fathers forgot they had their kids in the backseat while they were at work... so sad.

  5. You did right.  Someone has to take care of her kids if she won't.

  6. I totally agree with the first answer! same opinion and great thing you did to call the police, some people are just so Ignorant!

  7. That was good that you called the police.  There is never any reason for a person to leave their children in the car unattended even if it's just for a few minutes.  I've heard too many stories like this and children can die in the heat or someone could break in and take off with them.

There is a woman near where I live that would do that with her daughter and people kept telling her not to do it anymore.  She wound up forgetting her daughter in her car for a whole day while she was at work and the child died.

  8. You are a hero!

If the wrong person had seen them first that could have been a terrible thing.

Not to mention the heat, oh my god.

Did the police arive in time to confront the parent?

  9. YES. Those people p**s me off. They get mad when you say something and for getting concerned but if they died, then it would be your fault for not doing something. Give me a friggin break. I would've slapped the c**p out of her right then and there.

  10. A correct charge would be $25 per hour.   .

  11. Yes. They children could die from heat exhaustion or be kidnapped.

The parent should be reported to child services for neglect.

  12. is she nuts!! that woman should either go to jail or have her kids taken away!! what a low life thing to do how do you just leave your kids in the car...i know some people do but i dont even leave my dog in the car i just dont feel right..good for you calling the police and having common sense you should be proud of yourself!!
