Do you think that "Global Warming" is a myth caused by liberals?

I recently read a comic about how it is caused by liberals, which I disagree with.

Signs of Global Warming are everywhere. Besides...myth or not, isn't it a reasonable thing to do anyways because it is 'opening our eyes to what might happen, or what we are truly doing to our Earth"?

No i don't think its a myth.  the whole "global warming is not caused by humans" thing was funded by oil companies. There was an article in Time last year about this.  Mainly the only people that think its a myth are ignorant. Hopefully climatic upheaval occurs so we can be unrestrained by protective social systems (cops) and we can take all the SUV drivers and hang 'em high.

Figures that the 'deniers' need a comic book to claim that real scientists are wrong or a part of some world wide secret scam. The concern of AGW,is not a "myth" or a "scam"!  Only the fanatical denying of AGW is the cult!  They dig up obscure tid-bits of data,taken totally out of context,and yet they don't want to even try to understand the "real" science on the subject!  They're ready to claim it's a 'natural' cycle of the Earth's climate,but fail to take into account that man is natural,but our use of fossil fuels isn't! It won't matter what scientific proof that's presented to them,they have already made up there minds about it!  When the proof turns deadly,they'll just claim it's God's will!  Sad! Really sad!

Nope, it's science.  There are many basic scientific facts which can only be explained if the current global warming is being caused by an increased greenhouse effect due to carbon dioxide accumulating in the atmosphere from humans burning fossil fuels.

For example, the planet is warming as much or more during the night than day.  If the warming were due to the Sun, the planet should warm a lot more during the day when the Sun has influence.  Greenhouse gases trap heat all the time, so they warm the planet regardless of time of day.  Another example is that the upper atmosphere is cooling because the greenhouse gases trap the heat in the lower atmosphere.  If warming were due to the Sun, it would be warming all layers of the atmosphere.

Scientists have a good idea how the Sun and the Earth's natural cycles and volcanoes and all those natural effects change the global climate, so they've gone back and checked to see if they could be responsible for the current global warming.  What they found is:

Over the past 30 years, all solar effects on the global climate have been in the direction of (slight) cooling, not warming.  This is during a very rapid period of global warming.

A recent study concluded:

If that’s not enough to convince you the Sun isn’t responsible, consider the fact that no scientific study has ever attributed more than one-third of the warming over the past 30 years to the Sun, and most attribute just 0-10% to the Sun.

So the Sun certainly isn't a large factor in the current warming.  They've also looked at natural cycles, and found that we should be in the middle of a cooling period right now.

So it's definitely not the Earth's natural cycles.  They looked at volcanoes, and found that

a) volcanoes cause more global cooling than warming, because the particles they emit block sunlight

b) humans emit over 150 times more CO2 than volcanoes annually

So it's certainly not due to volcanoes.  Then they looked at human greenhouse gas emissions.  We know how much atmospheric CO2 concentrations have increased over the past 50 years:

And we know from isotope ratios that this increase is due entirely to human emissions from burning fossil fuels.  We know how much of a greenhouse effect these gases like carbon dioxide have, and the increase we've seen is enough to have caused almost all of the warming we've seen over the past 30 years (about 80-90%).  You can see a model of the various factors over the past century here:

This is enough evidence to convince almost all climate scientists that humans are the primary cause of the current global warming.

If you found those ideas in a comic book, at least they were where they belong.

No one suggested it was a myth until George Bush took office.  No one suggested abstinence was the best form of birth control for high schoolers until George Bush took office.  No one suggested stem cell research was the one and only certain route to cloning (and nothing else) until George Bush took office.  No one suggested the world was probably only 4,000 years old until George bush took office.  I'm not so impressed by the ideas as the mob he assembled to support them.

Here is truth about global warming:

Global warming is one-half of the climatic cycle of warming and cooling.

The earth's mean temperature cycles around the freezing point of water.

This is a completely natural phenomenon which has been going on since there has been water on this planet. It is driven by the sun.

Our planet is currently emerging from a 'mini ice age', so is

becoming warmer and may return to the point at which Greenland is again usable as farmland (as it has been in recorded history).

As the polar ice caps decrease, the amount of fresh water mixing with oceanic water will slow and perhaps stop the thermohaline cycle (the oceanic heat 'conveyor' which, among other things, keeps the U.S. east coast warm).

When this cycle slows/stops, the planet will cool again and begin to enter another ice age.

It's been happening for millions of years.

The worrisome and brutal predictions of drastic climate effects are based on computer models, NOT CLIMATE HISTORY.

As you probably know, computer models are not the most reliable of sources, especially when used to 'predict' chaotic systems such as weather.

Global warming/cooling, AKA 'climate change':

Humans did not cause it.

There is just as much statistical evidence to support global cooling as there is to support global warming. The truth is we do not know the reasons why we see climate shifts, nor do we know exactly how human influence impacts these shifts (if at all). True, we should take precautions to preserve and not damage the environment. But the creation of bogey man or monster is a rather stupid way to go about it. If we are actually so primitive that we have fight an unseen and nonexistent enemy just to keep ourselves responsible for our actions, I would say we are no where near as advanced as we would like to believe. And it's not like there's a couple of liberals in an office with no windows somwhere thinking up ways they can scare and mislead people. They're just concerned about the Earth, but happen to be a little ignorant and misguided in their quest. Attacking or defending liberals or conservatives will not do much of anything to help the environment. Global warming at most is an idea or trend. People will find excuses to believe in it, and others will find excuses to believe it is nonexistent. If the end result of all this global warming hype is an overall practice of personal responsibility with our resources, then I'd say it ain't so bad. But still I prefer not to get myself lost in imagination land.

The major polluters such as ExxonMobil pay conservative groups and politicians who are willing to accept the money and issue misleading information.  Some people are willing to accept this information so they can justify their own inaction.

Global warming is a myth. The earth has been in constant change for millions of years. Just recently, a petrified rain forest was discovered in Canada's north. The ice age made short work of that. Global Warming is true, there are Natural fazes but we are affecting that to a great extent ,with deforestation ,desertification and pollution., especially air pollution.

Calculations do not include the accumulative ,speeding up ,factor with time. the increase in water temperature will get faster all the time as well as the melting, when the ice is all gone the deeper cold Ocean currents will be drastically affected,which in turn will affect the warm currents,since all moving bodies of water are connected in series.

This will affect coastal climates ,world wide ,almost instantly. All aquatic flora and fauna will be affected,many dying off and others becoming invasive,

And recently In Chiapas ,and Tabasco in Mexico .more then a million people became homeless overnight with water coming up to their roofs ,because of rains from super evaporation from the forests,this had never happened before. Millions of animals died.

In India 3000 people died because of super storms .

.A few years ago in Europe 3500 people,died during a heat wave ,many of them in France .

Right now the average death toll annually is 150.000 due to Global warming

. these figures are already out of date and are expected to double soon.

In Northern China millions of people are running for their lives because regular dust storms so far have buried 900 villages under the sand and the whole of northern China is turning into a dessert.

The Sahara is growing by 7 kilometers a year all around the edges ,like a slow burning fire shriveling up their neighbors In the Kalahari huge rivers have dried up and thousand of species are gone due to their habitats disappearing .

The biggest changes are invisible at micro biotic levels species are becoming extinct ,others are multiplying ,

This affects the insect populations that follow ,and changes in that ,affect all that follows in the food chains ,

All life is interrelated of both flora and fauna, And since we are on the top of the food chain ,

we are always the last to know.

So Global warming has its toll there are incidents all over the world ,

The truth is being distorted at high levels,

But I do not think we can make a real difference anymore to change the tide.

On a Global scale,Humanity is not co operative enough .

The poor regions have other priorities such as daily survival.

There is a lot we can do about being more responsible with what we got ,

In the first world countries many do not care or are more interested in Global Control than Global Warming.
