Do you think that "global warming" classes will dumb schools down?

And shouldn't subjects like "conservation" be left outside of the class and be given as an extracurricular option (like clubs, groups, etc.) rather than replace or take time out of required subjects that are already not taught thoroughly enough in school?

  1. Well, it can't be any worse than putting creationism in biology textbooks.

  2. Good question! But-- considering how bad our educational system is now------ a little more "dumbing down" probably won't hurt too much.

  3. I think that teaching Global Warming is the smartest thing that schools have done in a long time. It is right up there with not teaching religion.

As a senior in High School i think that it will only help the studnets and make the better perpared for the world they will enter. The whole education system is screwed up. But Global Warming is way better then teaching religion. Talk about dumb schools down.

  4. dumdum, I so agree with you!!

  5. I don't see how that is possible.  They are pretty dumb now.

  6. With gas prices escalating beyond realistic concepts. Public schools are going to be a thing of the past. Here comes home schooling, and I expect to see a rise in intelligence.

  7. In many cases climate change may be the tool that helps children move to "How can I do that?" This is one reason I founded CoolingEarth.org. I enjoy working with children.

  8. Personally I think they should give more math classes,  just look at the face of the kid behind the counter when the register doesn't tell them the amount of change to give.  The future of our nation scares me.

  9. I think the US government has been dumbing down the kids for many years. The AGW subject just adds to their skulls full of garbage (if only they would learn to balance a check book).

  10. Teaching global warming is very similar to storybook-time.  It doesn't do any good to take time away from worthwhile subjects like math, science and english to teach tall tales.

If people want a club or society after school to talk about g/w well...it's still a democracy so I support their right to believe what they want.

  11. Since we can't teach children about religion, global warming should also be excluded.  There's too much junk being pounded into our childrens' heads.  But none of it is teaching them to think.  Instead, they are being trained as corporate robots.  Yessir, no sir, no questions asked.  Schools have done away with the arts and physical education under the lie that they are trying to save money.  Where did the billions of dollars raised by state lotteries go?

Instead our children are falling behind in the sciences and math, yet there is big push to teach five year olds about s*x.  Why not teach them how to write, read, and add and subtract?  Our children need to be able to think critically, not parrot what people before them have said and done.

  12. No.

Teaching about science is a good thing.

    Quoting your second link:

"The state board  and the department shall revise, as necessary, the framework in science to include the necessary elements to teach environmental education, including, but not limited to, all of the

    following topics:

       (1) Integrated waste management.

       (2) Energy conservation.

       (3) Water conservation and pollution prevention.

       (4) Air resources.

       (5) Integrated pest management.

       (6) Toxic materials.

       (7) Wildlife conservation and forestry.

       (8) Climate change.

If you think knowledge is bad, try ignorance.

Your first link is just one guys strange ideas.  It's true that those are weird.

  13. The schools can't get much dumber.

  14. I think they will brainwash kids into believeing in something which hasn't even been proven.

  15. No i dont think they will. Kids should know whats happening to this world currently and how. Clubs and groups wouldnt help because it would be harder to explain and the teachers couldnt be able to give them any sheets to read or work on. Kids would understand less and they would just belive that its fake even though they have proven that global warming does exist.

  16. Maybe the subjects that are taught is school are so mindless we  could do without so much of it. We hold on to our past and concentrate on what happend to our lost people of the 18 century. We have lost ourselves with our ignorence for our time we live in.

We are a world of hatred and repression of our lives energy.    We are scared of the future and concentrated on the past. It seems like any change is bad.

What we should be learning about is more science based aspects of life including, how we think and feel, why we do the things we do, and ultimately what effect our lives have on the world.

Example: We feel so crappy about ourselves (as a world) that we do not demand changes by not buying c**p that is contributed to global warming. Global Warming threatens our current consumerist lifestyle and that is scary so we keep using everything we can get our hands on.

These feelings from repression affects every aspect of life including relationships with people we choose to live in and the wars that our country fights.

The required subjects need to be adjusted to fit the times not the current world repressed so we can fit more about when Ben Franklin Died.

So will classes about Global Warming dumb schools down, maybe if you consider what children are learning as important information.

  17. I agree, especially since man-made global warming has taken on the status of a political issue and is false anyways. I don't think schools actually have "global warming" or "conservation" classes, but I'm definitely against them being inserted into the science curriculum, especially since there are so many other valid scientific issues that you can learn about.

  18. Well, they definitely shouldn't be the core of the curriculum.  The core should be English (or the local language), Math, and Science.  It's abundantly clear on YA that people have not learned those at the level that they need to understand or communicate about complex issues like GW.

  19. No. Global warming classes are needed to teach people more about the environment and to promote things like recycling which alot of people don't usually remember to do or even thinking about doing. Also it IS proven!!!!!!!!!!
