DUE TO THE SITUATION OF GLOBAL WARMING CAUSED BY THE GREEN HOUSE EFFECT ALMOST NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT. ESPECIALLY THE OVER USE OF PLASTIC BAGS. DO YOU THINK THAT RE-USEABLE BAGS SHOULD BE STRONGLY ENFORCED? WHY OR WHY NOT? GIVE ME YOUR OPINION.

  1. I think there should be a law prohibiting (making it not right) against people that want laws prohibiting everything. I'm sure if we were to know you we could find something you do that is offensive(something we don't like) about your lifestyle. Maybe we should make a law against you too.

  2. I think that enforcing the use of something only leads to a slippery slope.  We chose to use recyclable bags but would enforcing everyone to do so save the environment?  I try to think of things like this would the benefit outweigh the negatives.  I personally like to reuse bags and have the stores give me incentive to bring my bags.

If the police would enforce the rules think about the gas they would waste and the man hours required by them or the enforcer.  This person would also have to commute to work.

I think everyone should conserve and act responsibly but forcing people to do so is probably not the answer most would be in favor of....

  3. No.Plastic bags have their uses and I doubt anyone just throws them out.If you mean reuse them most folks do they just don't feel the need to brag about it.Make a law? And do what? a Fine? a jail term? Are you serious?Well lets start with you I am sure you are not doing all you could. Why should people get fined for using what the store freely gives you?And if they gave you any other type bag it would be the same. You really should worry about clean water and how much you waste daily. We will run out of that.

  4. Some bags are just as harmful to the environment as plastic it just depends on what its made of.Check out this web site!!!

  5. I'm all for it, not because of an environmental thing. Oil is too expensive to be blowing it on plastic bags that rip every time the 16 year old puts my milk in it.

  6. YA and who would enforce it the courts are backlogged enough lets let rapers and drug dealers go free cause it takes to long to get to trail but lets go after bag abuse.Best thing would be to have all vehicles over 5years old need a emissions test and safety before new tags(licence plates renewals) are given to ensure safe and pollution emission standards are being met.At present only the province of Nova Scotia in Canada has these standards that I know of.Vehicle operator would be responsible for testing costs.

  7. yes, in NYC they are banded. thank god!

But for garbage and all, what do we use?!

  8. I strongly suggest you rid the plastic bags and go with carrying a cloth bag for your purchases. Also in a grocery store even a used paper bag is much better than plastic...

I worry about disposing of plastics in general and throw away diapers.... Someday we are going to have to reckon with these products!!!!

  9. global warming is defiantly a problem today, but you cant force someone to purchase a reusable bag.  We have them in my apt and its almost impossible to get my roommates to use them.  Plastic bags are hurting the earth, but there are places to take them and recycle them.  We take ours back about once a month.  The law can barely enforce the laws already placed upon us, another ridiculous like this one and you mide as well take away all of our freedom as citizens, its our choice if we want to make the world a better place, not something that should be crammed down our throats

  10. No, but I like where you are trying to go. I answered, no, because like helmets for bike riders, I do not believe we should have our Congress take up the business of legislating our stupidity.

It is stupid not to use recyclable bags now provided by many supermarkets and grocery stores. They are wonderful, cheap and can be used for more than groceries. Beside the fact that most people do not realize that plastics, all plastics, including the shopping bags are made from oil, petroleum products are turned into plastic. It's another way of making the oil industry rich, and destroys our planet with plastic rubbish that cannot and will not break down, unless you have a thousand years to kill waiting for that to happen.

I agree with you that using these bags is a very, very good thing and I hope that people will choose to use them. Just as I hope people who ride bikes and motorcycles will choose to wear protective gear. But again, you can't legislate stupidity or enforce it in the case of the bags.

  11. The environment is an important issue especially right now. I think it should be a law. Did you know that only 1% of plastic bags are reused? I would suggest making a petition in where you live and people will catch on the idea.

  12. Yes I do because you can conserve more plastic.

  13. Yes, I have since purchased cloth bags.

From my point of view, they are a big litter problem . Similar to cigarette butts....they end up on the roadsides and also in our waters (which in turn cause suffering to animals and sea life).

I'm sure they also clog the water and drain pipes too.

  14. Some American cities have banned plastic bags and more will soon follow.  A product that is used often for mere minutes and then thrown away makes little sense, especially when it is made out of a scarce resource like petroleum and presents such a hazard for wildlife.  This will hopefully be just the first step in reversing the bizarre and unsupportable growth in disposable packaging in this country.  We create far too many products which are designed to be thrown away.

  15. No! That would be taking away our simple freedoms.

  16. Oh certainly.  We need to just start banning.  Ban this and ban that.  Thats the answer.  If the Liberal eco-freaks don't like it, then ban it.  These are the people who will tell everyone how to live their lives.  The Earth Police.  Ban, ban, ban.
