Question:

Do you think that religion is evil?

I mean seriously, religions are used to take control over masses and use various indirect methods to interfere with one's life and make it worser than it can be. I hate all "moral codes" except that doing something with person or property against his/her will is wrong.

The good/bad moral system is pointless. If something looks bad, it's usually good from the opposite point of view and vice versa.

  1. False religion is evil because it adds to and takes away from the truth. One religion says one thing and another religion says something else.Men through out time have been adding there man made traditions to there dogma and sooner or later it becomes what people think is truth. Hitler once said, put a lie down on paper, cast it to the wind. Soon someone will pick it up and relay it to others. Before you know it, it becomes the truth and after a long time it becomes a tradition. This is not an exact quote but you get the point. Pass a lie along and soon it becomes the truth, thats what false religion has done to the world, and thee is a lot of false teachings out there.

  2. Some people are so narrow-minded that they really can't comprehend that other people simply do not share their beliefs, so they just make up lies and demonize them. Religion is contradictory to itself. There is no 'book' on what is morally acceptable and what is not. People make up morals to make society flow well and to brainwash people into becoming serious and insular. As for morals, something that is seen as good by some only means that it is also seen as bad by some because there is nothing that absolutely everyone agrees on. Morals can be looked at in so many ways that nothing is certainly good or certainly bad.

  3. If you are not familiar with Christopher Hitchens, I recommend "God is not Great, How religion poisons everything." Hitchens is a well known atheist and writer. His argument and style is compelling and often funny.

    Have a good read.

  4. just think about this religions have always made people separate into different groups and hate other groups from being different. god says we should love one another even if we are different. all wars in this war have been fought because of religion. but religion will never die because as long as people believe that there is something out there than can save them religion will always be here to stay. people will not be scared if all religions liked each other. but you cant change a mind because once it believes in something it its hard for it to change right christians.

  5. I've been reading some accounts of the Spanish conquest of the Americas. Spanish war lords came in to various areas, killing, torturing, enslaving the local populace. The only places where this was held in check were places that the priesthood was present as an independent force reporting to the King.

So there is at least one example where religion, or the religious anyway, served to save the masses.

  6. Honestly, you seem pretty ignorant. Of course religions have the potential to be used for evil, but it's the people that bring out that potential and use it. Have you not realized that since the beginning of time, religions have helped people? You can deny their truth all you want, but regardless, they (most religions) have provided believers with hope, for a better life and afterlife, and to see loved ones after their death. And not false hope, I believe. And all the hatred caused by race? God, for example, tells us we are all his children, no matter what our skin color, or even beliefs, which should unite us and help make peace a reality. Countless people's lives have been changed for the better because of their religion, encouraging and inspiring them to become better people and help others. Can you tell me how that is evil? God bless.

  7. I think that organized religion is corrupt and has too many elements of evil.

John Lennon once said, "Religion is the experience by which we measure all pain."

Church organizations are being misused for theft.  I suspect that a lot of people go to church simply to rob benefits and opportunities from other members.  They would seldom rob your wallet.

To the extent that organized religion is on "the system", and has similar structure and practices, it contains elements of gnosticism and fudges good and bad together.  A lot of people who go to church regularly think it is possible to be mostly good but partly bad.  How can a religion be overall good if it is partly bad?  If it condones the evil element at all it is contaminated, and I do not know whether it can realistically measure its ratio of good to bad.

As you say or suggest, organized religion is used to torture, abuse and kill people.  When religious teachings tell people to brush up with their lifestyle, the advice is often well-intended, but sometimes chastisement is used as a form of deliberate and not accidental abuse.  I think that many people who go to church are trying to conceal a lot.

  8. yes i think so

it limits you and takes away your freedom

it controls you and you dont reveal what you truly are because religion is in the way. if there is a religion not like that, then it wouldnt be evil

  9. Religion is one of the worst atrocities mankind has ever created. However, a relationship with God is one of the strongest and most powerful things. God is not religion, Jesus is not a moral code. Going to church and warming pews is not power. It's fake if you're simply doing it to rest your conscience. But what you take home from church, what you do with it: that's what really counts.

Any moral code God put in place was made to keep people safe, not to constrict them from freedom. True freedom is freedom from self-harm and harm to others. That's what real Christianity supports, but not the trash you're talking about that *is* pointless when done for the wrong reasons. So don't believe lies; go to the source, go to the heart of God. :)

  10. No, I personally don't, but i guess thats what you think!

  11. ...because its man made...there is the temptation of evil in it...

  12. The question is ironic since "evil" is a religious concept.

  13. uhm religions dont take over your life...

    i'd know.

you obviously have no good parents to teach you right.

  14. are guns evil? no not really they could be used for good reasons, like making hunting easier, so long as you don't over hunt, in this day and age police need to use them for good reasons.

i don't think religion is evil either, it is an instrument, it can be used for good things, noble things, but also for evil.

that said, i think by it's nature being traditional, it cannot adapt properly to changing times, it cannot seek new knowledge, develop new philosophies. it does not think, it does not learn, granted it changes slightly over time, i think it's lack of intelligent daptability and learning makes it flawed and more and more only useful as a tool for evil. christianity at least. the asian ones are different since they are not based on a bible, but more writings of the individual responsible for them himself, and they are not subject to interpretation as much, they are more just like wise words.

the bible religions are the most dangerous, the ones jesus started, if he would have known the result, i'm sure he would never have started them.

  15. no, But i do agree with you. The world would be easier without religion in my opinion.

  16. Anything can be USED for evil. Logic and rhetoric are as equally abused methods of domination and control, so hey lets ban logic too eh?

    And Yahoo saith:

"Tip: Be as specific and detailed as you can. Use any personal experience or knowledge you might have."

"You can use research to help support your answer."

"Hmm...it looks like you have a lot of punctuation."

"Oops! It looks like you have 1 misspelling(s)." The word Hmmm.

"Oops! It looks like you have 2 misspelling(s)."

    "Please correct your spelling."

  17. Evil is a word that has been created out of religious thought....

How can religion be "bad" if like you say

" If something looks bad, it's usually good from the opposite point of view and vice versa."

Just realized "GURU" thinks the same way!
