  1. Depends on the task.  Scholars will rely on empirical research, while managers trained from an applied perspective will use "best practices".  This is not always the same thing. As such, scholars understand the concepts of error, and limitations of certain interventions, while managers will not necessarily comprehend why something works.  For example, leadership training is based on transformational leadership, so scholars will look at the research to conduct a needs assessment, while a manager will consult someone to do a leadership seminar.
