Do you think that some people choose to be ignorant/stupid?

For example, there are people in life who just can't see beyond their own point of view. Some call this ignorant, some may call it selfish, or maybe just plain stupid. Do you think this is a choice? or are their brains just made that way?

  1. No, I don't believe that people chose to be ignorant. Its about lacking knowledge. You can't grow without gaining knowledge and in my opinion, you can't be blamed for not knowing certain things and just going off what you have seen in life. Who wants to be ignorant?

  2. We are all on this earth for a purpose. We are to  to fulfill the life we are given to the optimum. Therrefore we live life learning, giving, appreciating - but we have to learn to do this, some of it is innate, some learned from our peers  ie good parents teach their children good socialisation, uneducated parents are less likely to be able to teach their children good life skills. However, the innate side of the personality can help to overcome this barrier, and sociaslising will also help achieve.

Some people go through life without the advantage of good role models, have not the power to accept other peoples views, may not be analytical to be able to appreciate other viewpoints.......it is all down to our personality, environment and genes.  One cannot say that if a person is ignorant he will remain that way. I was once ignorant untill i improved my life skills, i wanted to be educated, wanted to be able to converse freely accepting, and understanding  others viewpoints.........

  3. In my opinion, it's a choice.  They can choose to listen to both sides of the argument, or they can choose to be opinionated to the point of being insulting.  They don't think they're ignorant or stupid when they choose to be like that, they think they're making the right decision.  (In my case, I usually listen to both sides; but I can be ignorant too, for example I don't listen to anyone who says the Armenian Genocide didn't happen.)
