If so, which ones and why.

Please feel free to answer honestly and I ask for no personal attacks or trolling of any kind.

I am not asking this question to cause offense or controversy. I am just curious as to how people in general think and I am aware that in today's increasingly PC society, many may feel as if they can only express themselves anonymously.

If you do not like the fact that I have asked this question, please bypass it. Thank you.

  1. Everyone discriminates, it is human nature.

  2. The only people that should be discriminated against are the ones that do nothing to make this world a better place.....a******s.

    : 0 )

  3. You mean like not wanting a convicted child molester - who has served his time - to live in the vicinity of children? That I can understand.  It is the broad sweeping generalizations that are the basis for most discrimination that I think are not justified.

  4. This is America,no discrimination is justified.

In the land of liberty and tolerance that we live in,all men are created equal. We share the same rights, all of us.If you are born in the USA or legally become a citizen of the greatest country in the word any sort of discrimination is not only unlawful-its intolerable.

But if a person decides to come here illegally they should not be protected by the laws of the USA. If they wish to receive the liberties and the freedoms that citizens are granted, maybe they should enter this nation legally.

Otherwise it is unfair to the taxpayers who foot the bill.

  5. normally I would say No but when I found out John McCain collected money from the government at over $58,000 a year tax free, I started to discriminate againt people who have oil heiress for mother's & alcohol heiress's as a wife. I don't care what happened to him he doesn't deserve that money when another person doesn't have food. It is for DIS- abled people & when someone mentions his forgetfullness he says I am so healthy I walked the rim of the grand canyon. Well. people with out legs who can't do that should have help not him.

  6. "Discriminate" originally simply meant "to choose [between]" but more and more in modern-day society it is being taken to mean "to choose between based on irrelevant criteria". If there wasn't any discrimination nobody would be able to fulfill their potential, nobody could choose anything ever, everything would have to be based on a rotor.

For example; the football teams from each country are usually made up of the best footballers from that country, allowing the country to do as well as it can in matches. This is discrimination based on ability; it is relevant. However, if there was no discrimination at all, the team would be changed constantly so that everybody gets a turn. If a footballer was picked to play for the team just because they were Christian then this would be an example of prejudice; that Christians are better than others; the manager has chosen the player based on irrelevant criteria as there may be other, better footballers who were not picked due to their faith.

Some types of discrimination are fine, like choosing which pair of socks to wear in the morning, whereas others are not good at all, like choosing who plays lead role in a musical based on their sexuality, for example, instead of their ability to act and sing.

If the situation arises where a known sexual harasser in the workplace is up for a job and has a much better C.V. and record (apart from the harassment issues) than the other candidate but this other person who is applying for the job has no history of criminal offences in my opinion more research should be done to see if the offender has changed his ways and if so, they should be hired. If not however, then the other candidate should be hired as the sexual acts of the first person could have a negative effect on others and the company.

So yes I believe that some types of discrimination are justified but often in today's world discrimination is not justified as it is not based on relevant criteria.

  7. I don't think its justified under any circumstance.

  8. interesting question, never thought or came across this before.

but as of now, i can't think of any type of discrimination that is justified. hmm how about discrimination against terrorists? good side is that it'll compel people to eradicate terrorism but bad side is that it'll just be a vicious cycle.

  9. In the eyes of the discriminator they are.

  10. The question you ask is somewhat vague. If one uses the term discrimination to mean to choose something then of course some discrimination is justified. You discriminate against thing on a regular basis. Choosing soy milk over normal milk is discrimination, but it isn't wrong.

The other, more common use of discrimination is prejudice. This again is not always wrong. Prejudice means to pass judgment before, Pre-Justice essentially. Its perfectly right to have a pre-conceived idea about someone or something as long as its reasonable. For example cars don't fly and people breath air. However, prejudice can also be used to propagate stereotypes. This act is wrong and degrading for both parties involved and inexcusable.
