Do you think that spirits come back because of their addictions?

I know they don't have physical bodies..but I read this somewhere year ago...that people will come back if they have an addiction & try to get into people with the same addictions. ..to do it some more. Have you ever read that in any paranormal books? (I would think it would be a relief to get away from the addiction.)

  1. Sounds to me like another excuse for bad behavior."It's not my fault a spirit made me do it".

  2. Doubt it or my husband would be possessed by a s*x addict.

  3. Denie, this sounds like pure fantasy or a work of fiction.  But since I can't prove a negative...

I have thought about this a bit and I can't imagine how anyone would even be able to find out about this phenomenon.  Can you?  Would they go to NA and AA meetings and ask if anyone present is possessed?

That seems to be the case with so many phenomena.  It often comes down to a "says who?" situation when a claim is made that just can't be justified.  Addicted spirits possess people and make them addicts?  Says who?  And how did this person find this stuff out?  The idea of a spirit that was addicted to something when alive possesses people so it can continue its addiction is hard enough to believe.  It's even harder to believe someone was able to discover this by any empirical means.

  4. I can only give you something to consider. It is believed when a human dies, and as any thing in this field is speculation, their energy and personality is released into the atmpsphere. Also consider that some ghosts / spirits are seen / heard walking with canes, limping, coughing clearing their throats and things of that nature so, why couldn't they still have the symptoms of addiction. I doubt think they will posess another addict but, I believe that they could roam around thinking they have to find a drug source because thats what they remember doing so much. Like I said, this is just something to consider. I really have mixed feelings about it but, thats why we do research, to try to find answers to interesting questions like yours.

  5. no sorry but i do think that spirits come back due to the fact that they miss there family or they are not done with there life mission.

  6. never heard of that

  7. No, it sounds ridiculous to me, and a little paranoid. Its more likely that an addict will develop paranoia (very common with a number of drugs) and in that circumstance should probably go get a little professional  counselling and stop using the drugs before they develop any further mental problems.

That said I believe in ghosts, but I dont believe in hokum about negative energy and draining energy. That sort of comment is unhealthy and would just add to the paranoia of an addict in such a situation.

  8. sometimes unhappy souls who wander around in the astral planes are attracted to unhappy people, particularly those who yake mind altering drugs. Negative attracts negative. They don't try and get into them as such, but they feed off their energy making them feel worse than they did to start with. Like attracts like. They can't hurt them physically, just drain their energy.

  9. First the Buddhist believe that what holds you to Earth is attachment to the material world. So the drug addiction would fit under this category.

Second, there is an incorrect assumption that addiction is only a physical problem which is simply untrue. No one I have met has ever said they woke one day and just decided they would become a drug addict. Addiction is the result of turning to drugs as a coping mechanism because you do not have access to or are unaware of other methods of dealing with problems in your life. Clearly this is a mental health issue that if we assume the mind continues after death could stay around after the physical body was gone.

Yes, I have heard of this and some people do "spiritual rescue" (something like an exorcism) to rid people of these negative entities.

Despite the answers from people with no education or training with addiction issues it does not matter if you can prove a person at the AA meeting is possessed it matters only if they believe it in order to address this issue to have a positive impact on their life.

I hope and believe that when we die we rise above these human problems but many religions do not share this belief.

  10. I do think that addictions can be the anchor that anchors a spirit here, but I do not believe they will posses another addict to keep using. Possession is a religious teaching and therefore what a person believes about this comes from their religious background.

I guess if you look hard enough you might find a book about the paranormal that teaches this but I do not know of any that I have read.

I read many authors and I part from most of them because my experiences differs from their theories. I do not buy the residual hauntings like a loop of film and no inteligence is there. I believe it is either a ghost or  not. This is not an acutal science so therefore each individual believes what makes sense to them which is fine, I have no problem with that unless someone tries to force their belief on others and acts like their way is the only way.

Belief is a very powerful thing and if an addict believes spirits can enter them to get high then yes for them it is real until they get the help they need and realize it is all in their mind.

What I believe is there are many things that can be an anchor for the spirit. here is a small list

    Addiction

    Anger

    Hate

    Rage

    Love

    Fear

    Shock

And the list can go on and on. I keep saying I believe because since the paranormal interest is not an exact science it really is just what we believe based on our own beliefs and experiences.
