Do you think that swimming dominates the Olympics?

Are there too many events in swimming? Do we have the same number of events in each of the other fields? eg:A swimming event lasts how many seconds as to how many minutes rowing/cycling lasts.

  1. no i dont think they do

but it is hyped up by the media because the US is doing well in those events

we dont want us to seem weak and inferior

    thats just my theory though

  2. I don't think there are too many swimming events just sooo many repeats on repeats of races, medal ceremonies and that Phelps bloke!  Australia was in the lead in the Three Day Event but did it get much coverage?  Nope.  How many times did they show the medal ceremony?  I didn't see one and I watched TV all night and part of the early morning!  Maybe because they only got silver.

  3. swimming, gymnastics and running seem to be the only things mostly focused on within the olympics. everything else seems to hardly get noticed, let alone mentioned.

  4. I do think swimming has alot of events but I have to say I have enjoyed each and every one this year. I don't think it has more than track and field or gymanstics. I think it just seems to have alot because of all the coverage.

  5. no i dont think so, i love the olympics

  6. yes, how much of every other sport are you hearing about? only because of phelps winning 50 bajillion medals. in any other country you aint gonna hear **** about swimming

  7. i dominate the olympics.

  8. Don't be ridiculous, it's  just getting more coverage because of Michael Phelps, it will be something else next time.

  9. In my opinion, most definitely. Of the 65 medals US has won as of day, 32 (if i counted right) is from Swimming!  That should give a hint.

Also, many members of US team have multiple medals. If one looks at historical stats for the # of athletes with career medals > say 5, I would bet swimming gets it by an overwhelming margin. This is silly and makes a mockery out of "getting a medal in olympic". I know Track and Field also has many # of events, but not sure you see this there (even there why have 200m or 400m? Just have 100m, 800m and 1500m. But that is just me)

I know that different strokes require different talent - but that don't make  them separate "sport". Think about this - except as a sport, who really does butterfly for leisure (or for survival)? So why not have running with weights? Or running backwards? Or hopping? Or roll on the ground? They all require different talent too!

  10. Swimming does dominate the television coverage for the first week or so.   After that, track and field probably dominate.   Gymnastics also are prominent in TV coverage.    They give you what they think the general public wants to see.

  11. That's because there are so many events in swimming.  Track and Field will also probably dominate as soon as they start.  Also, because of Michael Phelps and his popularity, they show it a lot more.

  12. i think that anything where americans are prominent and have a chance of placing is what dominates the olympics. nbc is nationalist so anything where we have a chance of placing or where americans are is what will seem like the most dominant, i.e. swimming, gymnastics, etc.

  13. yeah there was. finally track and field is on. cant wait to see who will dominate thetrack and field event

  14. each race is only like, a minute.

the only lone ones like the 800 are 6 minutes.

    quit complaining.

  15. I would of always thought track and field would of been the biggest attention of events at the Olympics.
