  1. It depends on the teacher.  I care about each of my students because I try to take the time to listen to them.  I have found that when I stop and listen, they will usually do what I need them to do after I've taken just a little bit of time to listen to them.  By listening, I mean actually closing my mouth and letting them tell me about themselves, their likes, dislikes and their feelings.

  2. My friend (a fellow teacher) and I do care about our students. When there are issues regarding behavior and such, we take the time to find out what the underlying causes are and keep those in mind when working with the students. When students' parents can only afford to do laundry once every two weeks, we take their clothes home and wash them for them. If students need new shoes, we do our best to make sure they get them--we buy them if need-be. We work hard with our students to make sure they receive all the services they need in order to succeed.

    We care.

  3. Absolutely, YES!  I have been teaching for 10 years, and I still remember my students, and look back at their pictures often.  Just the other day, a boy I taught in first grade was mentioned in the newspaper- he was describing the experiences he had in 9th grade!  I was like, "Aww, my little Brandon is all grown up!"

As far as I am concerned, I care about my students very much, yes, even the ones who drive me crazy!  I always want the best for them and hope that I have made a small difference in their lives.

  4. Yes. There is no way you can be a real teacher and not care for your students. That isn't the same as liking them, but caring is getting past that and still doing what is best for them.

  5. I care about all of my students... I have bought clothes for some of my less fortunate students...  I check up on them and listen to what they have to say about what is going on in their home life and personal life...

  6. Obviously, not all of them. But yeah, I know some do.

  7. The good ones do.  Not only do they care about their students but they remember them, and when they see them later on, as they are growing up they are able to tell them special things about themselves.  As a teacher, I have had the privilege of knowing some great children and still keep in touch with students I had my first year of teaching.  I wish I could say all teachers do care, but honestly only the good ones really do!

  8. some do and some don't in my opinion but i know that my mom does ( she's a teacher )

  9. i go 2 private skool all the teachers care and r kool!!

  10. yes!

  11. Some do, some don't.

Teachers are people too, and while the vast majority start out teaching because they truly care, sometimes things happen in their lives to make them quite bitter.  Sometimes, they hold out the last 2-3 years simply to get their pension.  And sometimes, they feel trapped in a job that they know they used to be good at, but just can't get excited for anymore.  It happens.

I think that the majority of teachers do care about their students, yes.  I think that they get up every morning to take on an extremely thankless and stressful job *because* they care.  If they didn't care, many of them would go on to something that paid more, offered less stress, and just plain didn't take as much out of them.

Most of us do what we do for our students.  I know my students are what keep me coming back to my classroom, and that they are the ones that cause me to put extra work into making my lessons applicable and interesting.  Trust me - if we didn't care, we just plain wouldn't be there.  :)

  12. Some do, and they go overboard spending their own salary for supplies in the classroom and creating opportunity for the students to broaden their scope of the community.

Others don't care and they may show it in different ways. This is not to say that a great teacher cannot be great without buying materials and without taking the kids to places... but that being a teacher is difficult and we do have our own lives as well.

  13. i had a teacher a few years ago and she always reminded us that she cared about us and said she loved her job, despite what she's paid.

  14. Yes!  I teach 1st grade and I really care for these students.  They are like an extension of my family.  I have purchased winter coats, clothing, food, etc. for some students in need.  I always take time to remind former students that I still love and miss them.  During the summer I often think about "what are they doing right now???"  I often think I really connect with the ones who are struggling academically, or the ones with really bad home lives.  I hope this helps!  There are some really great teachers out there who CARE!!!

  15. some care some don't. people are all different.

  16. I do! And, personally, if you don't care for them than maybe you're in the wrong profession.

  17. yes, not all but most teachers do. that is why they became a teacher.  sometimes it seems like they are unfair or dont care but that is because you dont know them. get to know your teachers on a more personal level. i took me until i got to college to find out that teachers have lives and stories of their own. they have passions and one of their passion is to teach, to educate, and throught their contact change and bring up students with good character, knowledge and tools for the future.

ask your teachers why they choose to teach and you will know the answer. you may be surprised that you and your teacher have more in common than you think, and getting on a personal level with your teacher will benfit you as a student because the teacher will have a bigger intrest in teaching you and you will be more open to learning.

  18. I think most of the teachers with whom I work do care for the students. We don't necessarily LIKE all of our students, but we do care about their well being and whether or not they are learning. When they don't learn, it means we're not doing all we can to help them. We actually make an effort to do lectures and lesson plans that help people to learn.

Teachers who don't care do exist. They're often the ones who used to care, but got so burned out on all the discipline issues and students who had attitude problems or felt entitled to a good grade when they hadn't worked for it... and those teachers just got tired of having the joy in teaching sucked out by students. They still care, to some degree, but aren't able to show it b/c they feel it's not worth the effort for the amount of reward they get. That's sad. I hope I never get to that point.

  19. I do.  There are times I've cried at home (and a couple of times at school) because of a kid's home life.  I've kept in touch with several.  I think about past students a lot (and that's 23 years worth).  I worry about a lot of my students - I had one this year who didn't have electricity or running water since last October, and as far as I know, he still doesn't - and he's in the ninth grade and can't read (he's not slow; he actually can't read).  I think about him almost every day because he's a nice kid without a chance of a snowball in h**l.  So to answer your question, I don't know about all teachers, but LOTS of teachers at the high school where I teach genuinely do care about our kids.

  20. no

    only some would, probably

but as soon as the school year is over they will go "YAY they are gone!"

    =D

  21. I know that I care about my students or I wouldn't do what I do.  The vast majority of teachers do care...you may just not see how they show it.

  22. Some do and some don't, simple as that.

    -c.

  23.   Well they're definitely not in it for the money. Teaching is one of the most underpaid professions in the world. I don't understand why anyone without genuine interest in the welfare of children would choose such a career.

  24. My third grade teacher did, she was really wonderful. My junior high teachers told me I was a waste of space, nice.
