  1. Yes.

There is no provision in the Constitution authorizing its existence.

It isn't a question of whether or not they are or could be effective, nor a question of whether or not the "majority" want them to be involved in Education.

It's a simple matter of Constitutionality and the "camel's nose under the tent".

If you like the DoE, then start a campaign to amend the Constitution as provided in Article 5, but face the fact that they are an unauthorized exercise of federal power.

  2. I think anything run by the Government that starts with the words "Department of" should be dismantled.

  3. yes i do and you summed it up for me

  4. Yes, because education should be a State and local issue.

"The government that governs least, governs best"

  5. Yes, education is pretty much a state issue.  The federal department doesn't do much other than administer college loan programs and the No Child Left Behind Act.  It could easily be abolished and turned into an agency under Health and Human Services, which is where it was before they separated it.

  6. Yes, since people are getting DUMBER !!

  7. Yes!

Time and time again we have proven to ourselves that anything made into free market creates a better product. By creating competition we raise the standards. Look at the race to build the best hybrid car. It is time to abandon the status quo in our education system when on a global scale it is failing miserably.

  8. No, education is essential to the well being of our nation. Remove education from this nation and we would resemble the world shown in the movie Idiocracy.

  9. Luk at how moch smertur we gottan sence it startid in 1980. How ded we lirned enythang wethowt thim.

*EDIT* - The problem is that liberals think that only the federal government can solve all our problems, and the state and local goverments, and the people themselves, can't fix anything wrong with society. But, as with anything else the government gets involved in, all they do is waste, waste, waste, and don't get anything done.

IMO, education has gone downhill since the Dept. of Education was formed and began operating in 1980.

  10. Well, people can't even afford gas or to keep and heat their homes so I think doing away with the Dept. of Education right now would be a bad idea.

Edit: So, if it becomes a state issue, aren't you still going to pay tax to run the program - where will the money come from? making it private is ridiculous and not well thought out. You will become a country filled with uneducated, unhealthy children and adults. Do you really want to deny the children of your country a basic education? If their parents are poor, then s***w 'em? They deserve to be uneducated? Guess what...they won't be able to get a good job and then..you guessed it, will need to rely on government handouts. You want your people educated - how else will they ever become independent?
