I've seen the very questionable content of both older cartoons and the graphic content of newer ones, and the question has crossed my mind multiple times- which is better and which is worse?

Old cartoons featured things like violence and gangsters, but newer ones are much more graphic and weird, plus some of them seem to just teach kids how to annoy adults to their wits' end. For example, during the 4th of July weekend, my brother kept Cartoon Network on all day long, and this commercial for the show "Chowder" just pictured the kid saying "Can I, Can I, Can I" at least a hundred times. It nearly drove me and my mom crazy.

Just to be clear, I'm looking for a discussion that resembles an academic debate, so I will welcome research on this topic. And no responses that are shorter than three sentences- I just get so tired of the answers that are shorter than a typical phrase and have no redeeming qualities. Please be polite and refrain from using rude dialogue. Thank you!

  1. old was wayyy better.

  2. OK my husband And I have dicussed this MANY MANY times as we have three Children all under the age of seven. I feel it depends on the Cartoon. For example I will not let my children watch cartoons Such as "Ren and Stimpy'  Because of the crudeness for one and I believe too that it teaches repulsive behavior. And I do not let them watch any sort of cartoon after eight pm because most cartoons anymore have too much of a lets say adult manner to them. I have even began considering some of the older cartoons  Like the ones on "Boomerang' because they seem to be in some ways too graphic for children. The majority feature in some form or another is either violence or a form of maturity that is to I guess i would say adult for young kids to witness. even in some Disney and other "KID" movies they have loop holed around cuss words and sexual content in some manner or another. So I would say it does not matter new vs old. because most  are all basically the same in the general sense of things. All cartoons anymore, my husband and I preview before we let our children watch them.

  3. The older cartoons are still the best to this day.  Yes there were violence in them. But when I grew up that was the only violence you saw cartoon violence. And you knew that.  It could never happen, reality was real back years ago and now kids don't seem to know the difference.  The old cartoons were great to watch and gave you the feel of safety and laughter.  Whats changed is now the violence is in the homes instead of t.v. where it belongs.
