I've just always wondered why this happened..different languages? Any ideas?.(even besides different planets?) I know that the Bible says something about Cain and Abel splitting up and going separate ways..but why would they changed the language? Do you ever wonder what the FIRST language was? I'm sure Americans want to believe it was "American". (no..not English..we've got our own styles that wouldn't be classified as pure or original English)

  1. Almost all languages can be traced back to common roots shared with other languages (for example, French and Spanish have alot in common, all the languages derived from Latin, Japanese taking phenomes from Chinese when they adopted the Chinese writing system, etc.).

So it is rather unlikely that any modern language has come from another planet. That would be pretty cool, though. :)

  2. The answer to your question is a little further along in the Bible, the story of the Tower of Babel.

Until then everyone did speak one language but still, as of now noone can figure out what it was.

  3. All language came from one original language. sign language and gesturing.

If they came from different planets, I don't think all people of the Earth would wave their hands around so much when they speak.

  4. No, I think the different languages on Earth came from different distinct cultures.  Just about every language can be traced back fairly easily.  English and Dutch are Germanic.  French, Italian, Romanian and Spanish are Latin-based.  Asian languages have similarities.  And so on...

  5. I havent read any of the other answers so this is probably a repeat. Until man decided to go out and find cultures of other civilizations, they had to create a language all to themselves, and as they had no outside influence at the time their language was different to all the others.

  6. All languages change over time.  People may have started with one language but as they are separated and experience different things they will develop different words for those things.  Over thousands of years the two languages wouldn't look anything alike.

  7. Aiyce is correct.  Just curious sweetie - why would Americans think it was American?  We are one of the newest countries around.  Really our language is a combination of many different ones (as is English).

    Peace...
