  1. I don't know that we put more Gods in our life, but maybe we seek our God more during those moments of pain. And when the pain is gone.... we forget about him until we pass thru another painful moment.

  2. I observe two kinds of people:

those who seek the divine in pain and grow and those who escape into drugs and decline

  3. Creating gods and religions is mankind's way of trying to answer the questions that we don't like science's answers for.

Heaven sounds better than rotting in the ground,

and Adam & Eve sound better than monkeys who learned to walk upright.

  4. ...don't even have one and i still get a pain...

  5. Faith gives hope, that's just common human nature.

  6. The common denominator of religions is the cult of guilt....we have offended the god or gods and the priest are there to preach to us how much were are sinners

  7. The drive to avoid pain,

Is the drive to become godlike.

But more pain doesn't seem to equal more gods.

The Roman transition from poly-theism to mono-theism seemed more based on efficiency than pain.   The Darwinistically positive view of pain, as a test rather than cause for despair, requires only one God.

So while pain may generate the defense method of spirituality it does not seeming spawn an abundance of deities.
