  1. there is no assurance because do not expect an Einstein-like head to be as genius as Albert's

  2. I dunno.

But interestingly enough, I did manage to find this article about it.

  3. Good question.  I suspect it might.

  4. No. However, Phrenology (link below) was taken very seriously by many people including scientist for a time.

Some of the ideas were correct like localized functions of the brain but many assumptions were also incorrect.

This is almost to psychology what astrology was to astronomy - a starting point for a science that left it's unsubstantiated claims behind.

That is not to say that Phrenology and Astrology don't still have some valid claims today.

  5. Yes it does. People with more pointy heads act as better directional antennas for transmitting psychic brain waves. Round heads can transmit too but they transmit in all directions equally so the signal is weaker.

  6. Look at you Denie!  You're poking around on skepdic.com.  I'm so proud!

Phrenology has been pretty thoroughly debunked.  However, the inventor wasn't completely off base.  He did make a connection between certain aspects of thought and the geography of the brain.  As we know, certain parts of the brain are responsible for different thought functions, so although the early phrenologists were crackpots they weren't *completely* off base.

Phrenology has a lot in common with other pseudosciences--it exists, not based on evidence at hand, but purely as theoretical speculation.  It isn't driven by data and evidence, but rather by a "well, that seems to make sense" mode of thought.  The same thing could be said for any number of the pseudosciences out there.  One that comes to mind immediately is ghost hunting and the myriad theories of what causes a haunting and how to gather evidence of a haunting.

  7. I don't think so.  I've seen people with some pretty odd shaped heads and they seem to be just as normal as anyone else.  :o)
