  1. Well as you know those things are not monitored in Jamaica. Anyone can walk into a supermarket a buy a 6 pack. It just so weird how we don't find a lot of kids smoking and drinking?........

  2. The WORST of those vendors don't sell food. they sell useless toys that attract the kids eyes, and get them spending LUNCH MONEY on a toy that will stop working before they pass the school gates the following day.

They are sitting at school gates selling goods OTHER THAN what lunch money was supposed to buy.

Who shoudl monitor them? The police. If they don't have a license to sell there, they CANNOT legally do it. This is according to EXISTING laws.

    EDIT:

Clearly it doesnt bother some people that selling toys and and candy at a school gate, is EXPLOITING children in a way that can be detrimental to thier health and thier ability to learn. Basically tampering with a child in a way that could affect him for years to come. THAT IS NOT a trivial matter at all.

  3. right now we have bigger problems than people selling silly things at the school gate...most of these people are not selling weed or alcohal to the students, they are selling toys and candy

i would rather these people sell candy and toys to make a bread, than good out and steal

i thing our police force need to worry about the gangs and gun men killing of our jamican people

  4. These vendors should be monitored by both the Ministries of Education and Health/Social Security. I remember one news story that happened at a prep school where some students were exposed to a f**t smelling stink bomb thingy and many of them had to be hospitalized. I believe this was somewhere out east. This could have cost the life of our children and apart from failing to ensure that these items did not reach our shores, the relevant authorities did not also ensure that our children were safe from all this.

I have heard stories of principals who are being demonstrated against because they enforce that vendors at gates should be in possession of food handlers' permits and have discouraged students from engaging them. Some people love to defy rules and they do not even know that we are the ones who will be affected if these systems are not in place.

About the cigarettes, etc. Maybe adults do pass these places but it should be ensured by the school administration and ministries that our children are in no way at risk from these people of obtaining these unhealthy items.
