What I mean is I'm sure that there is technology that enables people to see what sites you go to and so on. Lets say gov't has this info about us . Would you feel safe?

  1. It's called advertising.  Everywhere you go people are trying to control what you think about.  They are constantly influencing us to spend our money on this or try that, even to vote for a certain person.  In a way the internet makes this a little more personal by using cookies to select the ads your or are shown based on the content you search for.  So yes technically there are people on the internet trying to control us.  Is it some kind of Manchurian Candidate plot no.  Should we be concerned?  no.   Should we maybe educate kids about advertising and media?  yeah probably.  And as long as you don't actively search the internet for illegal content who cares if the government knows what you can see.  If I want to be discreet I will use an annonimizer, or a "publicly accessable" computer.

  2. I like having paranoiac friends--it makes me feel better.  Also, hypochondriac friends make me feel healthier.
