  1. Probably but not actively involved.  The Republic of Georgia is one of those countries that the US military had been looking for military liaison officers for and I was considering at one point of applying for one of those positions.  That was all the way up to 2006 but I have not bothered to keep track of that since retiring.   The tours for that were eighteen months and among other things you are prohibited from participating in actual combat operations.  The US and many other countries have slots or positions that are filled by foreign military officers who bring their experience and way of doing things to the table and serve in an advisory role only.  The facility that I worked in for eleven years had several foreign military liaison officers from NATO countries only because of the security clearance restrictions.  I worked with several from countries like Australia, United Kingdom, Canada, Israel, and New Zealand.

  2. We did and do. We have at least 200 troops in georgia. When the conflict broke out the troops were ordered away from the fighting to maintain nuetrality.  there were four american tanks in georgia for training purposes that were in the process of being sent back to the US after the fighting broke out but Russia captured them. Never learned if we got them back or not.

  3. No if there were the damage done there wouldn't of been so bad.

America did not have American personnel on the ground in Georgia.

  4. There are American military personnel "on the ground" EVERYWHERE around the world, exact numbers are hard to come by, but it could be close to half a million!

Why WOULDN'T there be troops in Georgia?

  5. Seriously doubt it, there are some in the capital of Georgia not many a hundred or so.

  6. There were US military advisers/trainers in Georgia during the time of the Russian invasion.  I'm not sure of the exact number since news reports put the number anywhere between 70 and 130.

There had been approximately 1000 US military personnel in Georgia before the Russian invasion for a joint US/Georgia military exercise.

According to the US and Georgia, the US military personnel weren't involved in combat, but President/PM Putin says otherwise.

  7. U.S. troops were in Georgia prior to the Russian invasion. No, they were not involved in the Georgian attempt to regain control of the rogue province of Ossetia.
