I was wondering because Unreal Tournament is based on that and they are more than 100 years in the future. Also the movie Death Race.

The breakdown of society as we know can unleash a lot of morally questionable activities...we even had slavery during a "refined period" of history. I would only like to think that the sports you refer to continue to be fiction or the poor souls like me won't have a chance. The question is would you be playing Unreal?

Death Sports also happened in the distant past. Roman gladiators fought to the death. It's also one of the things that signals the downfall of a civilization.
