Do you think that they should introduce no points for nil nil draws in football?

I believe that if this was introduced in to our game it would eradicate teams from not trying, and just settling for a point. What's your opinions out there?

  1. it woud make things more interesting. dont think i have ever seen an entertaining nil nil draw. unfortunately i cant see it happening though

  2. that's a good idea,or you could deduct one point from the home team, has they do have an advantage in the game..<^><..

  3. Seems like a fantastic idea..and if there was any way something like that could be implemented into tournaments too..it would stop teams from holding out to get to penalties..and no I am not getting at Rangers here...everyone is guilty of that at some point.

Nice idea though Saoirse, if it becomes official you know they read this lol!

  4. I remember watching a Milan derby a few year ago, it finished 0-0 but it was honestly one of the best matches I've ever watched, one of those games where it had everything but goals, both teams deserved a point and it would've been harsh if they got nothing for their efforts. So no, I don't agree with that mate.

But some European matches are awful, there's a lot of boring 0-0 games there. I agree with Cc, if the away goal rule was scrapped it would make those matches much more open and interesting to watch. When teams are at home the emphasis would be on winning rather than trying to not concede. A lot of European football is a p**s poor spectacle these days.

  5. Yes.

Also in the league tables goals scored instead of goal difference.

  6. Thats a bit too far, football needs to retain some of its tactical edge and if you started introducing rules like that the game would end up like a circus with no reliance on intelligence and everything based on entertainment.

Its football if you want to see points scored start watching baseball or something.

  7. No, i can't get my head round this one, i see where you are coming from, to make for a more entertaining game, and yes we all want to see entertaining games, but i can also be entertained with a 0-0 draw, i love the tactical side of the game . Some fans out there when they watch a game, will just watch the ball, they won't see what is going on elsewhere, i can be a easily entertained when watching my team hold on to a slender lead..

Lets imagine, they have certain bonus points for certain targets, though scoring goals, that would mean ,  when clubs travel to Glasgow, would have to play a open attacking formation at  say Park-Head? they would might as well not turn up.

  8. My short answer is 'no' ,  think things are fine as they are, teams are encouraged to play for a win as it is with 3 points on offer these days as opposed to the 'old' 2 up here in Scotland.

Perhaps losing the away goal rule in Europe would help reduce the 'negative football on that stage.

Your suggestion could cause serious 'cheating' allegations, for example, should two teams be close to being drawn into a relegation battle...if playing each other, would it not make 'sense' to score a goal each early on in the game (wink, wink) before playing on fairly, thus guaranteeing that both won't end up with no points?!

  9. I think that's a most brilliant idea, my friend! Why hasn't someone else come up with that ages ago? This is a typical 10 points answer, don't you agree?

    My honest answer: I don't give a d**n, I hate footie

  10. erm

    no

  11. I can see your point, but where most teams play Man U, a draw is often as good as a win; even a nil - nil draw in my opinion
