Do you think that today's culture is more accepting of tattoos amongst professionals?

I was wondering if YA peeps would be so kind to honestly answer if tattoos are still taboo in todays general society?

I have found that due to my own ink being in more descrete places I am not judged too greatly by colleagues, but as soon as I wear a shirt or tank top that allows them to see this..

I have been the vicitm of fellow collegues asking "how could you do that to your body? "

I can't help but think tattoos and pericing belong on the stereo typical "basura de blanco" white trash who live in trailers.. but this is not the norm today for the most part or is it?

  1. I think that tattoes are just find it just depends on the tatto and the place certen tattos are peircing i think could depend on how much of them you have and the places they are.

  2. I'm a professional - a social worker - with a tattoo - it has meaning to me, I like it, it's in a place that will hopefully not sag as I get older (my ankle), and frankly, I don't really care what anyone thinks.

  3. Tattoos are a form of body art, and like all art, some like them and some don't.  However, the professional thing to do is keep them covered when in a work environment, not only for your co-workers, but clients who might not be so accepting.  It's unfortunate that society must judge, but sadly, they do.

  4. I would not go to a professional (doctor, lawyer, financial advisor, etc) for anything serious if that person had too many tattoos. Even though more an more young people are getting them they still show a lack of judgement and class. Just because something is fashionable or popular for awhile with young people doesn't mean it is smart or tasteful. Most tattoos wind up looking foolish and unattractive as the years pass because what you once thought was cool or s**y is not anymore. Sorry but tattoos are in poor taste.

  5. Absoluetly NoT trashy! Tattoos are art. I am not some tattoo freak or all pro-tattoo but I am however on par with culture. Walk into any car dealership, at least one person has a visible tattoo nowadays. I went to a jewelry store with my fiancee the other day and a saleswoman, who you expect to be very professional if they are selling someone something worth thousands had a large tattoo under her foreman. And that was at the largest jewelry store in Vermont!

Tattooes are getting accepted. Most already are.

  6. I think there is still a stigma with tattoos.  I don't think you should wear something that shows your tattoo when in a professional situation or at a function with co-workers (ie company picnic.)

  7. It would appear that your question was answered at work.  Most folks just don'[t find tatoos appealing.  And given the number of plastic surgeons who specialize in tatoo removal, it seems reasonable to assume that even those who have tatoos have begun to wonder what they were thinking...

  8. depends  where  the  tattoo  is.  by  defintition  the  professional  should  not  be  reveailing  intimate  areas  of  skin anyway  so  it  should  not  be  an  issue the  worst  you  may  have  to  endure  is  long  sleeves  in summer.

the  3  b's  apply   no breast, no belly, no bum. as  for  tank  tops they  are  beachwear  and  not  for  the  office either

facial  tats are  just  a  bad  idea  for  the  future.

    dont ever  get  them.

  9. Personally, I think tatoos and piercing (other than 1 hole per ear) are incredibly trashy.  Yes, trailer park comes to mind.  It's just so low class.

  10. its normal. I don't understand why people judge tattoos like that. When I get older, I'm gonna get a tat of my dead uncles name. Its not fair that employers judge people with tattoos. its ridiculous.

  11. It depends on where you work.  I would say that many people are more accepting of tattoos because tattoos are much more common and visible these days.  However, if you are talking about traditional, white-collar professionals, visible tattoos are often not acceptable.

Projecting a professional image includes presenting oneself in such a way that does not negatively affect one's effectiveness  when dealing with clients (current and potential) and colleagues.  So, things like tattoos, piercings, excessive jewelry or make up are not widely accepted.

Even actors, who are professionals but not white-collar, often have to cover up their tattoos -- when such tattoos would distract attention from the acting or if the tattoos did not fit the characters.
