of Human Rights there.

Look at what they are doing to the people in Tibet as well as the citizens of their own Country.

I know that is a rarely used method as a political protest but if you can remember a lot of Countries and some athletes participated in the boycott and did not attend the Summer Olympics of 1980 that were held in Russia, it was due to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979 .

I do realize it may feel like it is punishing the Athletes who have worked so hard, their whole lifetimes in fact to be able to compete in this worldwide competition but don't you feel that some kind of message has to be sent to China?

Why not the kind that was delivered to Russia in the past?

What would you propose to do?

  1. I think you should read up on the history of China and how they are related to Tibet before you start saying what a large group of people that you know nothing about halfway around the world should do.

  2. why would we boycott the olympics for something like that?  a government has the right to deny citizens free speach, and i bet that half of the c**p that you own was made in a chineese sweat shop.  the chineese government is a republic and its government decides what its people are and are not allowd to do and also how to punish them for ignorance of the laws.

there are things in our country that happen every day that the rest of the world does not approve of. should they boycott us?  we do not need to make the chineese angry at us just because we do not approve of their treatment of their own citizens.

  3. It serves no purpose to boycott the games. The Olympics are not about politics

  4. China certainly does have an impressive history of human rights violations, but If I boycotted every country that violated human rights I would only to be able to attend the Winter Games in Antarctica! I think if someone wants to boycott the Olympics in China they should.

  5. I also had a hug Tibet icon until I blasted off into outer space earlier today.

I have to agree that we should Boycott the Olympic Games in China because of Tibet this year. Also, I am very suspicious about what kind of chemicals they put into any  food products they export.

Tibet has always been a different country belonging to a different people. They have been forcibly colonized and too many of them have been killed. I am sure the same is true of the other "Chinese" provinces that are located in what used to be East Turkistan. It's much more than "cultural" genocide. Why did they locate their nuclear test site at Lob Nur in that area? It's because defenseless colonized people live there (just as those in Semi-Palatinsk, Kazakhstan were living next to the nuclear test site there.)

That said, I think China is a great nation with a rich culture and history (except for the Communists). They are so strong. It's sad that they feel they have to bully other countries.
