If you think of the way people lived in the 1930s and 1940s, and the way they were really frugal, and reused many things as often as possible, living by the maxim "Waste not, want not", (They weren't thinking of the environment, just of having finite resources at their disposal) and then think of the way people lived in the 1980s and 1990s, being much wealthier and not even caring about the environment (they could afford to buy more and more, discard when necessary)

What is your take on this, guys?

  1. if nobody tried to live beyond their means we would all be healthier, happier, and have a future on this planet.

  2. It's the concept of "enoughness", which has been lost to people.  It's a moral degeneracy.

You really got right to the heart of it.

Some people will drag in any sort of irrelevant nonsense to avoid this truth.

  3. So far, nobody has been able to provide a link between wealth on earth and the cycle of sunspot activity, so the answer is no.

  4. The main cause for global warming is the Sun. The earth is heating up, just like every other planet in our solar system. There is no human intervention in the climate change of Mars and yet it is experiencing the same "Global Warming" effect as we are on earth. Everyone who believes in human caused global warming has been duped and taken advantage of.

  5. The 1930's and 1940's weren't good time environmentally.  The climate then would make today's climate look like a wonderful spring day.

There was a 12 year drought, dust storms that started in Canada and ended in the Southeast, several hurricanes that hit Florida many of them Cat 5.

All this before the SUV.  I wonder.....

  6. A socialist might think so.

  7. So, based on this theory, the ah, animals after the last ice age lived more wealthy and it made the globe heat up to end the ice age?  BRILLIANT!

If you didn't catch that, it was sarcasm, not meaning to be insulting, but funny.

The people in the 30's and 40's lived frugally because it was the great depression, not because they wanted to live that way.

The wealth of a nation does not create global warming.  It would be completely arrogant to think that the US could effect the whole world like that.  There are a lot more 3rd world countries that live much more 'frugally' than people did in the '30's and they far outnumber the wealthy now.

    It's a ridiculous notion, I think.

I love all these 'bleeding heart liberals', if you all think that people are greedy because they earn money from working hard.  You give up your iPods, cell phones, and other wealth to the poor and take a vow of poverty.  Give up what you have.  Do what you preach.

  8. It is interesting the many books on history, including the Bible, show that people tend to lean to a Conservative outlook when brought down to bad times! A rich family in our day, could ask a teen to take back their bottles and cans and keep the money! When in trouble, for a time, we turn to prayer... when we feel we do not need to, we get in all kinds of trouble! Our generations: school shootings, etc. It will get worse as our taxes fund the ACLU and so will taxes! As people are thinking Liberal now, so taxes will increase along with social programs that will not work! If you notice, Democrats are asking for more and more volunteers, instead of workers paid by tax money! Should make all wonder where our taxes are going! Earl

  9. I'm afraid I cannot see the connection between wealth and Global warming cept may be the factories they had way back when spewing smoke into the atmosphere

  10. Yes,I agree with your opinion.

The pollutants from cars, motorcycle, aeroplane, etc contribute to a global warming. Also from manufacturers which produce pollutants, smokes, poisonous materials spoil our earth.

If people were in the world don't have fuel vehicles and manufacturers,it won't happened

  11. i agree. the current throwaway culture and its mindless consumer junkies is ripping through finite resources like there's no tomorrow. it has to change, and soon before we completely foul up the planet and she shrugs us off like the parasites we are.

  12. regardless of who's more frugal or who does more of the spending...

it's not the average person that's to blame for global warming

it's the special interests that drove the excessive needs for money and power...

    and oil..

it's human greediness and indifference and unsconsciousness...that drive global warming..

there's nothing "natural" about this problem

and yes it's dramatically increased within the past century...
