That really depends on several factors.  

I would say level of risk, level of authority, level of pay...all those things are likely to influence his response.

The military is predictable in some ways the corporate world isn't.  Not everyone is comfortable with the difference in standards of dress and behavior.

You provided the answer in your dad's case when you said he thinks so,

I've done both...they're stressful in different ways.
