with all the crime and corruption in South Africa, do you think people will be safe there and will the event be without any major scandals

Guess we'll have to wait and see.  If a tourist could get murdered at the Olympics in Beijing by a local, it certainly could happen in South Africa.  I don't know what a major "scandal" would mean.  Tragedies would be horrible but who cares about scandals?  Not me.

i have been to south africa 3 times too see my family and have never been broken into or seen a knife or gun. i think in some areas it is bad but johannesburg will be a good host. the people are so friendly and helpful.

there might be something about zimbabwe with it but not as bad as tibet and china.

you will just have to watch out for your bag and belongings but with the crowds someone is bound to see you getting knicked. (:

i am going so hope it wont be too bad.

YES! As a South African I know the work that has been put in to this World Cup. Not to mention the extra's that are comming out of our tax payers pockets. Just to make everything perfect.
