I think there is a lesson to be learned from here. Instead of having ten or more parties when elections come there should be only two. in other countries you get to vote either republican or democrat. Here we dont have those parties but lets say there was only one other party against the ANC people would therefor only be able to vote for or against the ANC and therefor the votes can only go two ways. Now its being split up between DP, ACDP, ANC and many many more.

  1. People in SA cant agree on 2 parties. The ANC will never loose the election, when it comes to voting most back people are pissed of at the ANC but still vot for them coz they say the forefathers will know if they dont. I have spoken to many black people and they all say the same thing.

  2. I think it will happen one day, but not in our lifetime, we will not see it. The people in SA learn extremely slow but eventually we'll get there

  3. Not now properbly this will be their last victory they just messed everything

  4. I am afraid you are showing little knowledge of other countries. While it is true that in the USA there is usually a choice of Republican, Democrat and the occasional eccentric millionaire independent and in GB there is the age-old Conservative, Liberal and Labour trinity plus a few minor fringe parties, in many other countries there are a myriad of political parties. Italy,  the Netherlands and France all come to mind. The problem with having a myriad of parties is that it leads to the creation of coalitions that then fight and fall, as in Italy, the 65th government I believe since 1945!!! Belgium went through a political crisis recently too in failing to agree on a government. The US and GB models are functional yet offer very little real "democracy" and at the end of the day it is the civil service and finance that run a country, not the government- the government administer!!! Perhaps we should turn back to using the term administration instead of governance just to remind them that they are elected by US!!! LOL!!!!  In SA's case I see what you are saying however I really cannot see the ANC losing its grip on power. The ANC voter base is too dogmatised and, to use and old English quip about the Labour Party in the industrial north of England, would vote for a big if it were wearing the right coloured rosette.

  5. Democracy! Can only be institutionalize if the citizens are involve. I think ANC did open that arena for a fruitful tunnel rather naive did we thought that his release from Prison; He was likely to see awareness to the end.

ANC itself has come far away whether is channel from the past wears cohesion and disturb rather; When the gentleman did leave not only left the faithful cushion for mongers to parade it without making sure its service and mechanism rebound its rainbow nations.

Of course is in a mess sincerely If the charlatan coming does not hold fresh manifesto that bear fruits for its citizens and foreign investors then derail its flagship sink the citizens and its neighbors Whilst its GATEWAY of Africa is block for it to be among the icons of global market players.

  6. Whether the opposition vote is consolidated or fragmented doesn't really matter, the fact remains that the ANC has increased it's overall percentage victory at each successive election post 1994 despite failing dismally in virtually all facets of governance, leading South Africa into more crisis than can be mentioned in a post of reasonable lenght as well as being repeatedly proven as corrupt, inept and openly racist towards the country's minority groups.

They will no doubt improve on their 69% majority from 2004 in next years election and this merely confirms that Africans do not understand the concept of a healthy democracy, only primitive one party states and answering to the metaphoric chief.

Unless 40 million Africans miraculously disappear, the ANC will win next years presidentail elections with absolute ease and no amount of wishful thinking can alter that reality.

Should the ANC ever be in a position to lose an election, they would of course resort to African style politics, similiar to what has been seen in Zimbabwe, the Congo, Malawi etc etc.

  7. Not until we are worse off than Zimbabwe and even then they will probably stay in power like Mugabe.

  8. This is foolish. Having two parties is a stupid American idea. It is a waste of money and resources. You should have only one, that is the right way to do things. Otherwise you get incessant squabbling between the people, those want this or these want that, and you cannot get on with the job of bringing your country forward into the light of African Marxism-Leninism. It is no wonder the United States is so unsuccessful, and so many people live in abject poverty while your politicians live like kings.

  9. Not easily Linda but the ANC has already spintered into 2 groups, and history has taught us that when something splits it gets weak, we will have to wait and see. What is the saying about a herd of buffalo? United we stand, divided we fall...............

  10. I think you guys are harsh on yourselves and our new democracy. This is not an event by a process that must evolve overtime. I don't believe that the ANC would resort to African ways as Bull says but I agree with him that the ANC has been increasing its margin with each subsequent elections despite apparent failures to improve the lives of the majority.

It's also true that because we are a young democracy every d**k, Sipho and Mary believe that they can start a viable political party that would challenge the ANC. That is a pipedream. I believe that the strong opposition will come from the very same ANC. At some stage Cosatu and SACP wanted to go it alone. But their problem is that they know deep inside their heart of hearts that their communist policies would failed dismally.

The current divisions within the ANC will be forgotten come election time. Everybody will be looking for their stomachs.
