I ask because I hear a little of both...Also,What is the difference between English and Australian? They sound similar, but there is "something else".

  1. There is no "British accent".

Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales have distinct national accents, and England has hundreds, especially in the south east and East Anglia.

The closest we have to Australian is probably the new Suffolk/London accent that is growing in use at the moment.

  2. British. You may think you hear a little of both because the New England accent derives from the British one.

  3. When on holiday in the US i was asked a number of times if I was from Australia when my accent is from the south of England.

I think that the Australian accent has a slight Irish twang to it similar to the Birmingham or Liverpool accent.

  4. It is similar to the cockney accent of East london,UK.

This is because a huge number of Londoners where sent there as convicts.  London was the most populous city in the world at that time.  So, in a big urban area, a lot of petty criminals, or people just stealing to survive were unjustly deported.

Curiously, Norfolk Island is related to the British west country accent.

  5. many people wonder like me

  6. Well they are all the English language, but just as American and British differ with spellings, word choice and pronunciation, so does Australian

I think Australian is more like British, since Australia is more tied to Britain
